RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - 81alum - 02-05-2023

Well, that did NOT go as predicted, at all.  Washington, a terrible three point shooting team, is 4/7 from three point range.  Their leading scorer is E Ladine, who I did not scout--about the 8th on their minutes per game list.  "On any given day."  Tara sent Emma-Nnopu in to defend Ladine after she went 5/7, but Washington finished strong and has a 4 point lead at the half.

Washington State, which is the better offensive team, had 38 points in the game.  Washington has 38 points in the first half.

Our defense needs to turn it up about three notches.

I want that lineup in there that helped us gain an 11-point lead.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - JohnR34231 - 02-05-2023

Washington scored 30 points in the second quarter to take a 4 point halftime lead.
This is not looking like an easy victory.

Don't expect UW to keep shooting at that level.  Tara will figure out how to shut them down.

We trail 34-38 at the half.

Shut who down? Us or them?

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - 81alum - 02-05-2023

Our offense plugged away, 17 points a quarter, which had been about average.  Against a good defensive team I think we would have taken 34 points at the half.  I wish our offense was firing on all cylinders, but it hasn't been and no surprise against Washington.

But our defense collapsed big-time in the second quarter.  That needs to be Tara's focus at halftime.  I think we were daring them to shoot threes, and unfortunately they did.

Ladine is their 8th player in minutes, and has been shooting 18% of her threes and 27% overall.  So far she is 5/7.  Clearly, we did not prepare our scouting report defense with her in mine.

Our defense was keeping us in this game early. It was beautiful. I wanted to hang it in my living room. Then we started hitting and building a comfortable lead. Got too relaxed.  No desire to put a foot on the throat (and if we did, they'd call a foul on Cam even she is sitting on the bench).

12/14=85.7%.  If WA can keep that up, (1) they deserve to win and (2) I’ll be amazed.

Rebounds?

Slow, no energy

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - TonyLima - 02-05-2023

There are two 3 point lines on the floor. Which is which? Thanks.

Jump is really pressing last few games. Had time to get set on that last shot

I'm old enough to remember when we were  a rebounding team. Then again, so's the avocado in my kitchen.

Stanford and Washington are the two best rebounding margin teams in the conference.  Stanford averages +15 rebounds, good for third in the country, while Washington is +9, good for 14th.

We need to be better, but it was never going to be easy.

Brooke is becoming the answer of who can stretch a defense besides Jump.  She's been solid from beyond the arc and is playing good D.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - Hieronymus - 02-05-2023

Perimeter defense has been awful today. Demetre having a heck of a game though.

Demetre Is great.  Wow.

Also smart, good passer

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - BostonCard - 02-05-2023

Considering UW had a 16-0 run spanning the half, to be up 1 at the end of the third quarter is near miraculous.  Helps that Demetre has gone off for five three pointers, and has become our answer to the question “who can make threes when Jump is off?”

UW is the worst 3 point shooting team in the Pac-12.  I'm sure the game plan was to let them shoot from out there.  They flipped the stats in the first half, but only shot  16.7% from 3 in the 3rd.

We take the lead by 1 going into the 4th Q.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - Hieronymus - 02-05-2023

Gotta stop going under screens. I know UW is usually bad outside but you have to adjust in game.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Washington Sunday 12pm - BobK - 02-05-2023

Sloppy turnovers and so poor on offensive rebounding.
