Somehow I just can't imagine UCLA beating South Carolina in a Sweet 16 matchup.  Many media pundits have #5 seed Oklahoma beating my Bruin team in the second round at Pauley.  UCLA has demonstrated wildly varying levels of play this season, a reflection perhaps of relying on five true freshmen in the rotation.  We all witnessed that variability in a single game - the conference tournament semifinal game against Cardinal.

I hope and believe Tara and her staff will have Stanford playing up to its potential and earnings its way to the championship game.  I also think Washington State makes a better than expected run.  Utah's run will depend on how well its opponents defend.  Not sold on Arizona, USC or Colorado.

I picked WSU to get beat by FGCU. The Cougs might have a letdown after winning the P!@ tourney by surprise and FGCU is darn good.

South Carolina will go one of two ways. It goes all the way, remains undefeated and wins the NC as most everyone expects. They can also feel the pressure of being undefeated, have a letdown or real off night and get upset. In the early rounds, Ucla seems most likely. They played SC tough early in the season and the young team has gotten more experience and improved. The Bruins also have more of a guard offense that can give SC trouble if shots fall. Having played SC close and beat Stanford which almost beat SC, Ucla will be confident and feel like they an win. A negative key is staying out of foul trouble especially in the post. Otherwise, SC will totally dominate down low. A positive key is if Kiki Rice can continue playing as well as she has lately. I alao picked Ucla to beat arizona in the elite eight. But first Ucla will have to take care of business if they play Oklahoma (don't see Portland upsetting them).

I can't decide how I feel about the conference.  Is it a conference full of very good teams without any real standouts except maybe the top two and that is not even certain?  Is it as deep and good as conference coaches keep saying?  I guess we shall see.  The acid test is if conference teams do not get upset.  If they churn through and at least make their seeding, which generally were favorable, I'd say yes, they are as deep and as good as the hype says.  (I still don't think we should have lost to USC, UW or to UCLA after getting that big lead.).  Most conference teams are pretty healthy going into the tournament (as far as I know right now), so no excuses.

Quite surprised to see where I ended up--my usual seats in Section 4, but they moved me all the way to Section 12. I will miss all the bench moments, but it should be nice to get a different perspective (and WAY better than my seat under the flagpole last year).

Oh, @#$@. Just realized the last time I sat in Section 12 was when we lost to Minnesota in the 2nd round. Time before that? When we lost to Harvard.

I think you might be in the sweet spot. Since I've been in the lower seats, I've been moved every time (even to Section 3, directly across from you). Never got oved from upper reserved, though. I think the Stanford families get seated in Section 4, higher seed opponent in Section 2, then the ticket office does the best they can.

Instead of rooting for other teams, I prefer to root for some teams to lose....5 that come to mind:

-Iowa
-SCar
-Yukon
-Indiana
-Tennessee

This will clear a lot of path for Stanford.

First game involving Pac12 in 1st round concluded, #7 seed Arizona defeats #10 seed West Virginia 75-62, with Kate Reese having a great game. So far, Pac12 is 1-0

Next up for Pac12 today
#2 Utah vs #15 Gardner-Webb at 4:30, ESPNU
#8 USC vs #9 South Dakota State at 5 pm on ESPNN 

(and oh yes, #1 Stanford vs #16 Sacred Heart at 4:30!!!)

And don't forget Lindy's #11 UNLV -- playing #6 Michigan at noon today on ESPNU

Colorado, UCLA, and WSU play their 1st round games tomorrow

My undergrad alma mater Marquette just missed the win in their game, losing by 2 in OT after a last second three point shot was in and out.

Looks like Lindy's UNLV just did not have the size to overcome Michigan today.  That and shooting somewhat poorly from three point range doomed the effort.  But valiant season for them.  Game not quite over at 71-59 Michigan.

This was a great article on Haley. Love all the coverage our team is getting for the tourney. Where was this all season long?!

I wonder what coach tried to dissuade Jones from picking Stanford saying she’d never win a Natty here. Considering her final list, likely Yukon, Notre Dame, or SC. (Oregon and Grave have never won the title ). Way to prove them wrong. Go Haley and go Stanford!

Ole Miss up 18-16 on Zags mid 2nd. Ole Miss plays very tight aggressive defense with their hands waving in all directions. They ought to pick up some fouls that way, but haven't been called for a lot yet. They did get called for a technical foul for guarding the inbounder too closely.

On offense they drive aggressively to the hoop. They got to the line a few times, but also got called twice for charging.


Zags got blasted after that to finish the half down 34-21.
