Well, Brink’s streak is courtesy of at least two lane violations that I can recall, but hey, those never officially happened. ;)

When a gifted low post player is 5-13 from the field and 10-10 on free throws, you know there's a bunch of shenanigans going on that are going uncalled. And she came off a stomach bug bad enough to need an IV drip. I didn't think the team was likely to win it all, but I didn't think they were going bow out in the first weekend. I hope this game motivates the returning players to get faster, shoot better, and play harder next year. Competition is getting better every year.

Not to put too fine a point on things, but Brink's streak is at 48. She was 62 of her last 63 in her last twelve games. Coincidence or not, her improvement started when she stopped shooting 3's. In her last 12 games she shot only one 3pt (late clock situation). Prior to that she was averaging over two 3pt shots per game (10/46)
2/12 5/6 but made last two
2/17 4/4
2/20 15/15
2/23 0/0
2/25 8/8
3/2 2/2
3/3. 7/7
3/15 10/10

Is that necessarily true? Plenty of players miss "bunnies" with distressing regularity even as they are able to make free throws. Don't get me wrong, I do think that Brink was hacked a fair bit, and a lot of it went uncalled, but I don't think the disparity in her field goal shooting and free throw shooting is any sort of proof. I mean, imagine if Brink went up against herself, and "evil Brink" blocked her 6 times. That could easily contribute to a 5/13 night from the field, right?

No, that's not what I meant. I meant that there were enough fouls to result in at least 10 FT attempts (this was a regular thing all night) and a pretty poor shooting percentage from a low post player. It tells me there was a lot of physicality going on and likely some that were not called.
