Watched alot of the game and Karlie must have played at least 2/3 of the time. I always expected her to struggle in the WNBA because of lack of quickness, especially on D...and she did. In this game, seemed to me she is much quicker. Also, she is holding her three pointer higher and getting it off quicker. Was 3 for 4 I think, fouled on another and, of course made the ft's. She defended Taurasi much of the time and did just fine. She looks markedly better to me. Hope it works for her.

It was a rough day for Lexi. Shooting 1 for 10 (0/5 from 3) and scoring only 3 points. She did get 6 boards.

Karlie showed much better speed in Australia this past winter.
I believe she was the only player in Australia to finish 50-40-90-->fg%, 3pt%, FT%, this included the playoffs.
Her first game for the Sparks, she remained at the 50-40-90 with 66.7 fg%, 100% 3pt% and 100% FT
By the way, Karlie also has a FT job for a company called Parity
She works during her non playing/practicing time.
Very hard, and smart worker, in many aspects.

Even though the Sparks got blown out by the Aces today, the two Stanford players playing had great games.
Nneka had 16 pts (7/8 FG%) and 5 rebounds in just 19 minutes, while Karlie got a starting nod and put up another great stat line: 13 pts (5/8 FG%, 3/4 3P%), 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Didn't Chiney play? Guess I can look up the game story on the web...

Sparks Twitter says Chiney was out with non-covid illness. Several others ill too; some played anyway, including Nneka.

IIRC, Nneka was previously out - so possibly she had the same illness and is now better.

I've been really impressed with Alanna Smith. Another solid game today with 14 points, in the starting line-up, leading the Sky to victory.
Lexi and Haley played against eachother today, though both were held scoreless. Not sure I see either lasting in the current WNBA; but love to see the progress Smith and Samuelson have shown, in addition of course to the Ogwumike's.

Agreed. Both Alanna and Karlie are maximizing their opportunities so far in this season and it's great to see them playing well and in big roles with their teams. Smith not only had 14 pts, but also a double-double with 12 rebounds as well and 6 assists.
And also agreed on Haley's and Lexie's struggles. I haven't seen any games yet so I can't tell where they are having trouble. Hopefully they'll turn it around

Lexie is averaging 15 minutes per game but shooting percentage is less than 7%.

It's fascinating to watch. It takes years for many players to become solid contributors in the WNBA. Karlie and Alanna are both great examples as their first few years in the WNBA were quite underwhelming. The difference in athleticism and physicality between the WNBA and the college women's game is massive.
I think Lexie has a chance to stick, largely because of her defense. The Fever have just started using her as their defensive stopper against the top players in the world (e.g. Brianna Stewart, Rhyne Howard) and she's been doing pretty well so far. On a team that is defensively putrid, she's actually pretty valuable even though she's not shooting well. Also, last year Lexie's offense kicked in down the stretch where she scored in double figures in 3 of her last 4 games. At least she's proven she can put some points up.
Haley is another story. Her deficiencies that bothered Stanford fans over the years are glaring in the WNBA. The Dream ran her at point yesterday and it was rough. 3 awful turnovers in 10 minutes and she struggled to do much against the opposing guard. She's not a great defender and not a shooter. She made bank in college attacking the basket and finishing over smaller guards and even some bigs, but those shots will all be contested or even blocked in the league. Wish it wasn't so as I want the best for her, but it doesn't look good at this point.

One of Lexie's hallmarks in college was her defense and I'm glad to hear even though she may be struggling offensively, her defensive tenacity is translating onto the pro stages.

Also have wished the best for Haley, but in retrospect, I think she peaked by the end of her sophomore year, but never developed beyond that. Agree; the WNBA is a much different 'beast' than college ball.

And just like that, Haley comes out with her best pro game yet. She scored 13 pts, going from 5/9 from the field including 1/1 from downtown(!) with 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 19 minutes off the bench against Chicago.
Conversely, on the other side in this game, Alanna Smith had her worst game so far this season, finishing with just 3 pts on 1/5 shooting, though she did grab 6 rebounds.

I've been trying to watch as much of our alums as I can. Hard when games are on at the same time. I did see much of Jones' play and of Hull today. Nice to see Hull get her scoring going just a little. She can't survive too long on just hustle and defensive effort. Jones looked much more comfortable this game. The back-up pg for Atlanta is out so she is getting more time, which is helping her settle in. I am very much enjoying the games, following our alums when I can, but just enjoying the games even when none of them are playing.

I'm just so happy for Haley JONES. That was her breakout game, showing
what she can really do.

When I see a game stat like that, I have to wonder why she wasn’t shooting more during that game.

Couple of Chicago guards did a lot of one-on-one, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Smith looked very good. She looks like a solid WNBA player now.

Really nice game from Alanna, playing well, but What the heck was Copper doing shooting a really tough shot with 14 seconds left in game and 10 sec on shot clock
