LPGA was founded in 1950. Beverly Hanson won the Eastern Open in her first tournament in 1951, although technically, Hanson won an LPGA event in 1950 as an amateur, the Women's Texas Open.
And -- technically speaking -- Hinako Shibuno won her first LPGA tournament in her first appearance in 2019 AIG Open, but she had been a professional player on the Japanese tour for quite some time.
Rose is truly unique...

Wow. Just wow.
We all knew she was good, but maybe not THIS good (yet).
Equally or more important to sponsorships is the two-year exemption into the LPGA Tour. Rose is now able to play in pretty much any LPGA event she wants for the next two years. It probably also gets her into Ladies European Tour events as well.
This means she doesn't need to go to Q-school for either tour. That is a big big deal.

She has the prime spot on her golf bag available. Had a big Stanford logo on it this week, along with her name. She signed with Callaway and Adidas as part of NIL after her freshman season. She was making some nice coin while still in college. Rachel Heck has a big Nike NIL deal, IIRC.

Stanford needs a strong recruiting class for next year (2024). Coach Walker does have a commitment from Leigh Chien from Irvine. She just finished 7th in the AJGA portion of the Mizuho Americas tournament that Rose won. Chien is the 154th ranked amateur in the world right now. I think Coach Walker will want 1 or 2 more.

She has the prime spot on her golf bag available. Had a big Stanford logo on it this week, along with her name. She signed with Callaway and Adidas as part of NIL after her freshman season. She was making some nice coin while still in college. Rachel Heck has a big Nike NIL deal, IIRC.
Both Zhang and Heck reportedly had several NIL deals paying each of them well into six figures. No doubt their sponsorships will continue. I noticed Delta Airlines on her hat, and I was especially proud to see a Cardinal ball marker!
Heck's Nike deal only covers clothing. They are no longer in the golf equipment business. I think she's also got a Callaway NIL but I'm not sure.

PGA and LIV are merging. More tournaments and money. Probably more male golfers will leave college early for big bucks. Don't know if there will be any trickle down effect for female golfers to LPGA.

I'm with you 100% on concerns about Saudi money. However, I think this agreement was about the best outcome that could have been achieved. There was a significant, non-zero risk that LIV would win its anti-trust lawsuits against both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. The outcome of that would have been devastating to both tours.
Yes, there is blood money here and that's the part that really bothers me. However, PIF (the Saudi investment fund) has a minority stake in the new entity. The PGA Tour specifically will call the shots in this new world as they have majority ownership and the majority of seats on the board. Their leader (Jay Monahan) is the CEO so he will oversee how this new organization operates. They are also preserving the arm of the PGA Tour that does unbelievable amounts of charity work that many don't know about. We are talking about tens of millions per year, if not over a hundred million.
It remains to be seen if they can take the agreement framework announced today and deliver a complete detailed agreement. Then the healing process will really begin at the player to player level. There's a few LIV guys (Mickelson, Garcia, Poulter) who I'm not sure will ever be welcomed back. But there are other guys who kept their mouths shut for the most part and I think they will be welcomed back with open arms.
Another piece of this is the timing. Ryder Cup selections are coming up. Still not clear if LIV players will be eligible but my guess is that they will. That means Koepka will play for the US. Possibly Dustin Johnson as well although he's not played well this year. For Europe there are several players. I don't see either Garcia or Poulter being picked no matter how good they are. They really burned bridges badly when they left for LIV.
There's also the possibility that someone buys out the Saudis.

Round 2: Rose really had to scramble, her irons to the green were often short, but she saved par on several holes with clutch chips from the traps and rough, and made several medium putts. Wasn't her best day for long shots, but her short game saved her.
Round 3: Much better driving and approach shots! She was tapping in for par for most of the front 9, compared to yesterday. Her putting let her down today, she missed so many potential birdie putts!
Impressive composure (live interviews while she was walking between shots with cameras and microphones in her face). Seemed very relaxed. Love her interviews, very poised, with thoughtful answers.
She still uses a golf ball with the Stanford logo! The card in her back pocket still says GO STANFORD! Couldn't tell if she still uses her Stanford golf marker. I thought these might go away because of her corporate endorsements, but she's still a Stanford gal!

Yes, and she has a Stanford pin clipped to her cap. An announcer on Friday said she plans to finish her degree.
