it will be interesting to see how expanding to a 12 team playoff impacts opt-outs. If they are minimal in those games I would expect they expand the playoff to 16 teams in short order to create four more "minimal-opt-out" games...

And ESPN was irritated...interesting, given that they lobbied for undefeated FSU to be left out of the national playoff in favor of Texas and Alabama, teams with one loss each. Quelle surprise...
The average bowl team has more than 12 opt-outs. This article has some interesting suggestions, and it "credits" Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette for having started the opt-outs in 2017...and they were rewarded for their opt-outs, having been drafted 8th and 4th respectively.

On paper, it isn't "pay for play". The NIL stuff is constrained to be independent of playing. Change the rules and you risk making the players employees. Different sets of problems. Either way, it is not IMO "college football".

- change NIL to include bowl game participation
I would assume that those signing players to NIL could try and include something around bowl game participation, not sure how much any of them care about bowl games outside the CFP and would be willing to lose a top player to school Y who does not try to do something similar.
- move the transfer portal date out to Jan 2
while this sounds good, it likely means a lot of transfers won't be able to enroll in Jan and be able to participate in Spring practice which coaches looking to next season wouldn't like. I also wonder how many coaches would choose to play someone they were pretty sure was going to transfer over wanting to get a look at their potential replacement unless there was a brobdingnagian gap in skills (e.g., they would probably play their starting QB they thought was transferring but may not care much is the second team OT was)
- bowl game incentives to win
might make the smaller games even less attractive as the guaranteed payout could be less (and cost the school more) than they plan, and outside of the major bowls aren't most of them money losers for schools already? Making them potentially bigger money losers might kill of a few (which Could be a good thing)

This week an ex NFL player (don't know who) stated on the radio that the growing problem with NILs is that the great players are raking in lots of $$ but the non stars are not. This is leading to jealousy and locker room issues, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if this was happening, but have others heard anything. I think I read that our fb an mbb team members all received the same dough. That would prevent the jealousies, etc., but might lead to big impact players going elsewhere for their $$.

Does the majority of the FSU fanbase actually believe this garbage? They had a perfect matchup and opportunity to prove the committee wrong and instead they picked up their marbles and went home. If Stanford did the same in that situation I would be embarrassed as a fan. I didn't love when McCaffrey skipped the sun bowl but a random matchup against UNC is completely different IMO.

Shorten season to 10 games with a 32 team playoff. I don’t think a solution exists in today’s world for the Bowl Games other than the NCS. I haven’t watched one second. Except for perhaps watching a few minutes of Iowa-Tenn, the only games I’ll watch are NCS.
College football is FUBAR.

I think it more likely they keep the 12 game schedule, losing one (or in some cases two) home regular season games won't be popular for the teams that don't make the CFP unless they get a piece of the playoff action.
I think they would more likely keep the 12 game regular season, eliminate the current conference championship games (since winning them would mean much less in a 16 or 32 team playoff), and have a 16 or 32 team playoff. Eliminating the conference championship games also prevents "lesser" teams getting an extra week off before the playoffs

After being down 6-3 at the end of Q!, the Ducks exploded for 28 unanswered points in Q2 to go up 31-6.
Probably would have been a better game if Bo had opted out.
We may not see much of him in the second half.
