RE: 2024 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 05-18-2024

Updates!

(Thanks to BobK, SMF, and CardinalSagehen for keeping everyone up to date!)

I (and others) have cross-referenced the updated Spring Roster, and the following players are no longer with the program:

Rising junior CB Caleb Ellis
Rising sophomore walk-on CB Caymus Rooney
Rising junior DL Pat Caughey
Rising junior ILB Benjamin Hudson (transfer portal)
Rising senior RB Brendon Barrow
Rising sophomore walk-on QB Brayden Hagle

New players:

Rising senior TE Griffin Waiss, a transfer from UW; two years of eligibility left (walk-on)
Rising 6th year DL Clay Patterson, a transfer from Yale; one year of eligibility left

The following six entering freshmen have registered early and are currently with the team:

CB Cam Richardson
DL Benedict Umeh
ILB Sam Mattingly
OLB Dylan Stephenson
QB Elijah Brown
WR Emmett Mosley V

I have made the changes on the grid and in the notes...

I was under the impression that Umeh was not practicing with the team due to health related (cancer?) issues

Waiss is a walk-on.

That (paid insider) information was not known to this board.

Umeh will likely redshirt, but he's very much still on the team and on scholarship, which is what's relevant here.

Quote:The Stanford defense is adding depth on the defensive line with the addition of Clay Patterson, who joins the Cardinal after spending five years at Yale.

Sitting second in the Yale record books for career sacks with 22.5, Patterson was an All-Ivy League First Team selection in 2023 for the second time in his career. He burst onto the national scene in 2021 as a Third Team All-America (AP) selection, pacing the Ivy League in sacks with 11.5. Across four seasons of football, he compiled 111 tackles, including 30.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, and an interception.

A standout on the field and in the classroom, Patterson has earned recognition from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the NFF Hampshire Honor Society for being a notable scholar-athlete.

good to hear. he's not exactly a lightweight.

Bailey Parsons explains why he is not playing this year. He broke his neck vs. Cal in 2022 and it has not fully healed.

Had no idea! Makes sense now why he played less last year...

Best wishes to him in his future life endeavors. I hope that his neck injury is such that he is able to function well in a normal, healthy, and active life.

gostanford has what appears to be a new roster posted

It's new in that it has the new players on it, but weights/pictures/positions are not updated yet.

RE: 2024 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 08-03-2024

I looked over the newly-posted roster, and discovered a few minor changes:

  1. Freshman Maxwell Richardson moved from OLB to ILB
  2. Freshman PWO Drew Cunningham also moved from OLB to ILB
  3. Sophomore walk-on ILB Carson Berger is no longer on the team
  4. Sophomore walk-on CB Adam Rourke continues to be the only player listed as a "defensive back," but he's a CB
  5. New PWO: Freshman kicker AJ Seidler
  6. Another new walk-on: Freshman WR Owen van Loben Sels, who played at Menlo-Atherton
  7. QB Justin Lamson, who was a transfer from Syracuse, is listed as a junior, likely for eligibility purposes, but is academically a senior; this is odd as everyone else is listed according to their academic year, except...
  8. Walk-on TE Griffin Waiss, a new transfer from UW, is also listed as a junior, even though this is his fourth year of college
  9. I noticed that all fifth-year players are listed as "fifth year," but the three sixth-year players are listed as "graduate student"
  10. The only two players explicitly listed according to eligibility are WR Elic Ayomanor and new Northern Iowa transfer ILB Jahsiah Galvan, both of whom are rostered as a "redshirt sophomore"; both, of course, are academic juniors

Thanks for the updates.

Someone who doesn't know better might read the roster and assume that they're all eligibility years due to the inconsistencies. As others have suggested, can they just start going with explicit eligibility years across the board like practically every other college football team?

With all of the TV money that we're raking in from the ACC, maybe we can hire more sports information people to keep it straight.

Mbb scrimmage - Mferracuti - 09-18-2024

Looking for who Stanford is playing in their closed scrimmages I’m
Hearing pacific but looking for the other

Now that it's 2025 and Stanford's 2024 season is long over, I'm unpinning this thread.

I second the motion.  With all the changes over the last several years (a pandemic bonus year, one year of JC time not counting as a spent season of eligibility, grad students with three years of eligibility remaining, relaxation of medical redshirting rules, etc.) class standing is meaningless.
