On a separate note, I have confirmed something I long suspected in this Tournament. I am a Midwestern boy who emigrated to Palo Alto, the Bay Area, and then to Oregon. As I found myself rooting enthusiastically for Arizona this afternoon, I knew that my allegiance to the Pac- (8, 10, 12) is and was (after Stanford) geographical. I will so, so miss a major West Coast conference to root for. If we are unable to win it all this year--and I hope we are--I will be rooting for USC, UCLA (yes for both), or Oregon State to be victorious. Colorado, Utah, OK, but not the same level of fandom.

The Cardinal can move into the Sweet 16 without good guard play, but it would be asking too much of Brink and Iriafen to carry them beyond that.

I watched a highlight reel of Crooks against Maryland. It seemed almost all her shots were uncontested layups where a shorter player was fronting her and the pass came over the top. It didn’t show how she came to be in that position.
The tallest player on the court for Maryland was 6’2”.

Tonight will be the last game at Maples for Cameron Brink and Hannah Jump. I hope they remember how terrible they felt last year when they lost in the round of 32 at Maples. They should rally the team to play with maximum intensity and intelligence to defeat Iowa State and advance to the Sweet 16. I don't want their last game at Maples to be a loss.
I have really enjoyed watching Cam and Hannah play for Stanford. These two players represent the best examples of skill, dedication, sportsmanship, teamwork, selflessness, and humility. Their leadership have allowed this team to overachieve this season and win the regular season in the most competitive Pac-12 season ever.
I don't think this team can beat South Carolina, Notre Dame, Iowa, USC, or Ohio State. I think we have a puncher's chance of making it out of this region, which would be a phenomenal achievement for this group of young women. However, regardless of how deep they go in the Big Dance, I have nothing but admiration for this team.

Saw Florida State (whom we beat) take ND into double overtime in Tallahassee. ND was a good team, but they sure didn't look unbeatable.
If we brought our A game and the Domers didn't, I think we would have a good chance.

I just don't think we match up well against ND with Hildalgo at PG. But, we could win any game if we bring our A game and the other team doesn't. That isn't likely over a 4 game run (sweet 16, elite 8, final 4, and final).

Honestly, the first round crew did a pretty credible job. I appreciated the consistency. Interestingly, Julie Krommenhoek played for Utah in the 90s. I'm wonder if former players who played DI end up having a more nuanced perspective when they become refs.
I did watch the Utah-SDS game, and notably, Brenda Pantoja teed up Lynne Roberts in the first half after a no-call on a travel. I would put Patoja in the "please no" category these days along with Chuck and Benny. I guess the hidden benefit of the move to the ACC is we won't get some of the west coast based refs for away games.

When I read the CardBoard, I pretty much read the posts without noticing who wrote them. So I was reading this post, and I thought "that poster is worried about EXACTLY the same thing that I am worried about, concerning Iowa State."
