I'm optimistic for this year's team.
At least much more so than right after seeing the stampede to the exits after end of last season.
So reminiscent of what football went through.
But also new Coach Smith similarly seemed to pull a Coach TT, in the bringing in of more and better recruits and transfers than I expected.
And no doubt helped a lot by NIL outreach to Maxime being successful.
I'm still wondering if we'll be watching "PG by committee" somewhat like last year.
A definite potential weakness.
However, I'm optimistic that Coach Smith will round this group into playing better defense than last year.

Batson joins the Cardinal as a 6-3 guard from Notre Dame Preparatory School in Scottsdale, Arizona. A consensus three-star player from On3 and 247 Sports, Batson finished his senior campaign with averages of 22.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 62 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. He was a first team all-state honoree and the region Player of the Year.

Just watched our video of Stanford at the ACC press conference.
Coach Smith, Maxime, and Jaylen Blakes.
Really good replies by all 3.
They are a credit to be representing our school.
Coach said we'd be emphasizing defense, rebounding, and ball control.
Maxime to defend the rim more.
Jaylen to lead a tenacious D.
Jaylen with epic answer to one question about student athletes:
Mother taught him #1 good person, #2 good student, #3 good athlete
That's sage wisdom right there.
Best of luck to these guys and not just cause of wearing Stanford uniform.

I like that Coach Smith has the experience of coaching intellectual guys (Columbia), which should help him find the right fits for roster needs through the transfer portal as well as through conventional recruiting. He's a great person, and I can't wait to see his team reflect his coaching prowess.
