An alternative explanation is that she didn't know she would definitely get accepted and wanted to demonstrate (to herself and/or others) that she could get admitted independent of volleyball. She also undoubtedly knew Hambly really couldn't help her much. She apparently was also willing to attend Stanford and NOT play volleyball. That could have happened to her.
Quote:While I'm glad she joined Stanford, I fear the grad transfer rule can be abused to benefit top teams at the expense of other teams.
IMO the problem is that given the state of the art today it won't be "abuse". As long as the program is also open to non-athletes, it isn't against the rules. If the faculty and administration of the school in question is willing to do it, it is "just fine". Obviously, lots of us don't think programs that are basically a sham to allow admission of athletes are "proper", but as we have seen with undergraduates, shams are ok as long as they aren't restricted to athletes.

Von Oelhoffen would be a grad transfer. Doubt she applied months ago

I would guess most likely transfer prospects are Tess Heal from Santa Clara, Kaitlyn Chen Princeton, or Brenna McDonald Yale. I dont think any of the Oregon State transfers are interested in Stanford this go around.

Stanford urgently needs an experienced post player, as they don't have any!

Wow. That's fantastic, a great choice, think. But I do wonder how this will play with Katie Steding, with her history with Tara and Stanford, as well as having been a head coach in the past (BU, 2011-18). Also wonder if there was any discussion of this possibility in discussions involving bringing Tempie back this past season.

UCLA, USC, LSU, SC, UConn all had 5 assistant coaches last year. Glad we added another spot. Seems like a good hire.

Stanford will have 4 assistants in addition to Head Coach Paye, not five -- same number we had in 2023-24. Assistants: Brown (assoc. head coach), Steding, McCall, Pohlen
