This will be the first time since 2000, and only the second time in the history of Olympic Beach Volleyball, that there is no Stanford alum competing in that sport.

That’s a bummer on a couple of levels. It’s unfortunate she still isn’t all back. I do start worrying about the long term some now. Two, Lynn Williams is the replacement and it’s not really like for like. She is a good player, but is a pure winger and doesn’t help the midfield. It definitely hurts the USWNT, but with only 18 players you can’t take a chance on a roster spot on a player with an injury.

Cat's ACL tear was her left knee. This irritation issue is being reported as her right knee. So may not be related to her ACL recovery (other than perhaps she's been overcompensating by putting more stress on her right knee). Anyway, I don't think we have the information to know whether this might impact her long-term prospects. It's a bummer that she's missing out on another major tournament though. Her USWNT career was delayed due to the naturalization requirements and she's now missed the World Cup and the Olympics due to injury. Casual fans don't realize what an incredibly impactful player she is (or at least can be when healthy).

While I was sad no one from my alma mater is competing in beach volleyball at the Olympics this time, there is a player for the US that grew up in the city I live in. So I still have someone to root for. Everyone's pretty excited around here!

Stanford in the 1924 Paris Olympics...
https://stanfordmag.org/contents/full-circle?utm_content=httpsstanfordmagorgcontentsfullcircle
Quote:In1924, the Summer Olympics were held in Paris. They were the first to be broadcast on radio. The number of women competing slightly more than doubled from the 1920 Games—to 135. The first Olympic Village debuted, complete with running water. And, oh yes, Stanford athletes claimed 21 medals (all in men’s events and more than the combined school total up to that point), leaving notable impressions—on the field, in the water, and, well, possibly on the bruised faces of Parisians.

I'm glad they finally put up a page, but wow they need design help.
If there's one thing that USC does much better than Stanford, it's
tooting their own horn celebrating the accomplishments of their student athletes. This page is good design:

Brody Malone fell on the pommel horse and high bar today. He will not make the all around finals or the high bar finals. Very shocking and disappointing.
