We do a little better with ESPN's computer model (win prediction in parentheses):

  2. Clemson (8.5)
  3. Louisville (8.0...not a typo, it's out of order in the article)
  4. Miami (8.3)
  5. SMU (8.3)
  6. NC State (8.0)
  7. North Carolina (7.5)
  8. Cal (7.0)
  9. Virginia Tech (7.0)
  10. Duke (6.1)
  11. Pittsburgh (6.4)

I have little trust in anything SI puts out these days. . . .

It wasn’t SI.  It was the media vote by those media members who follow the ACC.

Kudos to the two media members who gave Cal first place votes. Have to wonder what the media member who gave the first place vote to #14 overall Boston College was thinking...

Given the number of voters, I don’t think all of those voting were truly members of the media.  Instead, I suspect that some of the individuals who voted represented fan websites.

Feels optimistic to place CAL 1st. I mean since 1960 they only won the PAC twice, 1975 and 2006. I don't have faith that Wilcox will suddenly lead them to the promise land.

I'm going to be optimistic right now and have us at 7 wins this year (Cal Poly, Syracuse, VT, SMU, Wake Forest, Cal, SJSU)

I like the number of players we have returning this year and Taylor's willingness to play Freshmen who are outplaying the upperclassmen.

The BC voter doesn't look so insane anymore.  I think everyone whiffed on FSU.  No one saw kal coming...we'll see how they do, but they are underestimated at everyone's peril.  It's a long season.

FSU (0-3) is now favored over Cal (3-0) by just 2.5. At home...
