Once again, QB play is our Achilles Heel.  Daniels takes 2 sacks and we turn the ball over on downs to ND with a short field.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - d4cohn - 10-12-2024

Why are we going for 4th and 5 at this point in the game? I know it is frustrating to come up *that* short of points, but set your defense up to get off the field quickly and try again on the next drive.

Cross is an excellent rusher and he rolled over our new center this game.

Totally agree. It's just plain dumb.

I blame coach for going for the 4th and 5. I don't think Daniels was particularly bad on that last sack.

Bailey is getting some snaps now. And he just got beat by ND's QB.

What happened to our good pass blocking?

New center plus new guard and he, Leyer, has never been very good at it.

Nice play #17.  That's a turnover!!

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - PalmTree - 10-12-2024

Thank you - thank you VERY much!

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - martyup - 10-12-2024

Our offense has stalled.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - old spanish trail - 10-12-2024

Good for JFR. I like him and would like him to play more. I know not everybody agrees with that.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - PalmTree - 10-12-2024

& defense getting mauled....

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - d4cohn - 10-12-2024

If we are going to go for every fourth down, why don't we adopt that Arkansas high school coach's philosophy and go onside kick every time too (because the analytics say to do that too)?

Here is the thing about analytics (and yes I am a data scientist by profession): general, non-specific analytics are far less impactful than analytics customized to our team, our personnel, our strengths and limitations. What works for Texas may not work for us because e.g. we have more of a running QB, our kicker is hurt etc.

Utilize analytics and strategy that fits our team and where we stand honestly in terms of personnel.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - martyup - 10-12-2024

I guess that defensive stop on ND's first drive and our impressive first drive were flukes.  We are now getting beat in all 3 phases.

Do we have an Offensive Gameplan?
Have we identified some weaknesses in the enemy to exploit?
Ayomanor has two catches for 9 yards.  Run him out of the slot; put him in motion.

The Offense continues to look like a "Grab-bag of Hey, let's try this."
Daniels cannot find the 2nd and third receivers, so he scrambles -- or takes a sack.
Just 1 for 5 on third down.   5 yards a pass.  No running game.
Nuthin, after the opening drive, mostly materialized by a 27 yard scramble by Daniels.

How about we MATRICULATE the ball down the field, boys?

Our game management on offense is so bad. Say what you will about his other deficiencies, but David Shaw's strength was situational football.

He basically dove at the rusher’s legs and was easily hurdled/stepped over.

That’s an example of why he lost his starting job at the beginning of the season.

Yeah, that's more or less what we expected.
At least what I did.

Friendly reminder that Notre Dame has the #1 defense in America by Defensive FEI.

A friendly reminder that Stanford has the #104 offense in America by Offensive FEI. And, Daniels is #102 among QBs.
