RE: WBB: Stanford @ Notre Dame Thursday 5:30; preview and game thread - 81alum - 02-06-2025

After one quarter I am seriously debating with myself whether to stop watching and do something more fun.  I have not had that internal debate for 10 years.

Certainly true in this game.

Tough to play when you lose your number one player.

34-13 and I am signing off.  Hopefully it will be the worst watching decision of my life.  But somehow I don't think so.  13 points and 14 turnovers.  See you at Louisville.

Geez ND making shots and playing good defense.

I'm still at work and just checked live stats. Gosh.

I guess Nunu being hurt explains some of why it's this bad a beatdown.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Notre Dame Thursday 5:30; preview and game thread - Card10Fan - 02-06-2025

What an embarrassment. We will score 40 in this game? It doesn't help Nunu being out, but come on Coach Paye, this is unacceptable. The level of  effort and intensity needed to COMPETE in a top 10 game should not be surprising to us. We've played at LSU, at Duke.

This has turned into a rout.  I don't have any answers.

Neither does our team

19 tos! 6 fgs in  1st half. we look like a team that's never played the game, unacceptable effort

Make that 15 points and 19 turnovers.

Wow…just wow…

I made it through the Pitt game, maybe I can make it through this.

Did JSX place the suitcase bearing defense on another plane?

Completely embarrassing. It's very bad when you just hope we don't turn it over and at least take a shot. Perhaps the individual parts have talent, but they have not shown to be better as a team in any road games for the last month.

This may be our worst loss ever (point differential). I think I attended the home game vs. Oregon (with Sabrina) that I recall was said to be Tara's worst loss ever. That could be topped tonight.

Who on this roster do we actually see being an integral part in helping us get our program back on track? Honestly, I only see Agara and Clardy. The freshman coming in next year every one of them should be playing 30 minutes per game.

I think Umeh with more experience can be a contributor, but yes, our talent level is nowhere to the level we are used to.

As I said before the game, I hope facing N.D. and seeing what we could have had lights a fire under Paye and the recruiting staff. We can't get back to national contender status without elite talent. That starts with not just patting ourselves on the back for hanging onto Swain and persuading Somfai to choose us over UConn.

It means, going out on the trail and getting Woliczko, Bjorn, Abii and/or Crittendon for 2026 and then looking ahead to 2027.

So the key question now is will Stanford shoot a free throw? 0-0. ND incredibly with 6 fouls. For the game.

how much responsibility/blame  falls on Tara
 for state of roster

Announcers say worst loss in Stanford WBB history, 47-96.

Definitely Agara and Clardy. I think Ogden has good potential..strong, can actually shoot, and block out, but needs to work on her handle alot. Shay is the pesky defender every team needs, and she plays hard. Umeh will be a good bench player.

Weird, for as many times we tried for points in the paint, we didn't shoot a free throw until 6 min left in 4th.

Kate Paye had been the recruiting coordinator for the past at least 5 years prior to being announced as head coach so…

I remember attending a horrific loss to UConn at Maples in which we scored 33 points, I believe.  Maybe it was not this bad.  But it felt terrible.  However, everyone knew that the loss then was not the character of the team and that we would be better next game.  Does anyone feel that way tonight?

A win at Louisville would certainly help, but who on earth expects that?

I know this may be controversial, but let me be the first to say:  this season's collapse is not primarily on Kate Paye.  I am willing to give her more time, and I think we all should be willing.  If next year finishes as poorly as this season is playing out, however.....
