I’ve surprisingly (to me, since I have never been much of a metal fan) taken a liking to some metalcore: Bring me the Horizon, Architects, Avenged Sevenfold, Bad Omens, President, etc.  Mostly picked up the interest from watching mainstream drummers take it on in the Drumeo “hearing songs for the first time” series, which I think was introduced in one of these threads.

You can checkout Aurorawave. They’re like an “intro to metal” being not too heavy.

Saw them at Shoreline last year, pretty good.

Side note for new music. Bought tickets for a reggae/rock concert at Frost in October. 

Slightly Stoopid, The Elovators, The Hip Abduction and DENM. First three I’ve seen already and are good.

had to be from the 1960s or earlier as putting out four albums in a year is a big lift

It was from the 1960s. And there are only three bands who had exactly THREE #1 albums on the Billboard 200 in a single calendar year. And all three of THOSE bands were from the 1960s.

The only band with four #1 albums in a single year were the Monkees, 1967. The four albums were:

1. The Monkees — carried over at No. 1 from late 1966 into 1967
   
2. More of the Monkees — reached No. 1 on February 11, 1967
   
3. Headquarters — reached No. 1 on June 24, 1967
   
4. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. — reached No. 1 late in 1967.
   

The Beatles did three #1 albums three consecutive years, 1964 ( Meet the Beatles!, The Beatles’ Second Album, A Hard Day’s Night ), 1965 ( Beatles ’65, Beatles VI, Help! ), and 1966 ( Rubber Soul, Yesterday and Today, Revolver ).

Kingston Trio had three #1 albums in 1960 ( Here We Go Again!, Sold Out, String Along ).

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass had three #1 albums in 1966 ( Whipped Cream & Other Delights, Going Places, What Now My Love ).
