I had Sunday morning obligations so was unable to watch, but from the recap it looks like Stanford held up well, losing only 8-12.

As a point of reference, of UNC's 15 other wins this season only 3 of them had goal differential of 4 goals or fewer: @ Syracuse, @ Clemson, vs Duke in the quarterfinals of this ACC tournament. The lone loss to Northwestern was by 1 goal in overtime. And the 12 goals scored by UNC is tied for the second-fewest they've scored all season.

Stanford was outdrawn 7 - 13. Had 1 free position shot to 4. 3 green cards and 5 yellow cards. Outshot UNC 27 - 23, but SOG were 12 - 16. Not getting good shots. Polisky, Stanford's leading scorer was 0 - 5 and no assists.

Stanford did have 8 saves.

They scored 1 fewer goals than the first game.

The defense improved to slow down UNC, but they still struggled in draw controls and on offense.

Correction on an earlier post. This year only the top 3 seeds get a first round bye. Stanford needed to beat UNC to get a bye.

Do you expect Stanford to be seeded in the top 8? I think that would mean hosting the first two rounds.

Stanford’s RPI is probably too low to host. It is 11 and only the top 8 teams host.

Navy, Florida and Colorado still have their tournaments. Realistically, Stanford can only finish ninth in RPI.

The two game slump where we lost to BC and Villanova (especially Villanova RPI 32) hurt us so much in the RPI.

There's a decent chance that Stanford gets a Top 8 seed. It's #6 in the coaches poll and #4 in the media poll. Getting home games is important as all four losses came on the road.

I don’t know about lacrosse, but I know the committee sometimes takes into account injuries if the player is healthy going into the tournament and it sounds like our goalie was injured during those two losses.

Polls are not considered.

Injuries during the season are not considered only "Eligibility and availability of student- athletes for NCAA championships."

From today. This has us going to Ann Arbor to play Colorado in the first round. Although if Colorado wins the Big-12 it could host. "The Cardinal made a run to the ACC semifinals, but a damaging loss at Villanova in March will keep them from hosting."

Saturday is the final for both the Patriot, CAA and Big-12 conferences. Then we will know if Stanford has a chance to host or not.

If I understand correctly, the following are the only teams that are ranked higher in RPI than Stanford (11) *and* have not yet played in their conference tournaments:
4 Stony Brook (CAA)
8 Florida (Big 12)
9 Navy (Patriot)
10 Colorado (Big 12)

So here's what we cheer for:

* Florida to not win the Big 12

* Colorado to not win the Big 12

* Stony Brook to not win the CAA

* Navy to not win the Patriot

* Army to not win the Patriot. (Army's RPI is 13 and they might leapfrog over Stanford if they win the Patriot?)

I'm not sure if we need all 5 or just 4 out of 5.

I agree that those are the remaining teams still playing.

I don't know enough about the RPI calculation to definitely say what needs to happen for Stanford to host.

This site updates RPI fairly rapidly and is supposed to be identical to the NCAA Selection committees RPI calculation: https://pro.lacrossereference.com/rpi-d1-women

You might need to be cheering for first round upsets.

Is it even possible for Florida to win the Big 12? I don't follow Lacrosse as I do other sports, but does the SEC not have Lacrosse?

Johns Hopkins was given the 8 seed with a #10 RPI last season. Strength of schedule was a big factor for them. They got the 8 seed over #4 RPI Princeton and #9 RPI JMU, seemingly based on strength of schedule because Hopkins played in the Big 10. The ACC is the other strong women's lacrosse conference. I like the strength of schedule numbers as of now, but I admit it may not be enough to give Stanford the edge without some serious upsets against the teams ahead of them in RPI.

Yes, SEC doesn’t have lacrosse so Florida plays in the Big-12 along with UC Davis and San Diego State.

That gives the Big-12 6 teams and an automatic qualifier into the NCAA tournament.

Definitely head scratching that Johns Hopkins was seeded last year.

Princeton RPI of 4 SOS 16
Johns Hopkins RPI 10 SOS 5
JMU RPI 9 SOS 27
Stanford RPI 11 SOS 10

The funny thing is that Princeton was placed in Johns Hopkins pod and they beat Johns Hopkins 18-12. Poetic justice?

On conferences, for lacrosse only Johns Hopkins plays in the Big-10 and Denver plays in the Big East. There might be others.
