Re: Class of 2016 - PrinceLightfoot - 10-08-2014

We just offered DT Bo Peek from Tampa, FL who has said we would be his #1 school during the summer if we offered.

We also offered ATH Brandon Burton from Gardena, CA - projects as a WR or Safety. Looks like a battle against USC for his recruitment.

Keith Gavin, 4* FSU WR commit received a Stanford offer for track/football.

Word is that if there is an offer, it is not for football.

Well, if he gets a scholarship and participates in football, the scholarship counts against the football limits.

And against Track as well?  I assume this applies to football/baseball players?  Applies to both sports?

Re: Class of 2016 - BostonCard - 10-12-2014

No, a scholarship for two-sport athletes only counts to one.  But if football is one of them, it counts towards football (so that coaches couldn't get around the scholarship limits by getting football players on other scholarships).

Re: Class of 2016 - StannyBoy - 10-12-2014

That's the Bear Bryant rule.

I can think of a scenario where this could be a problem.  Say a soccer player on full scholarship decides, in his second or third year, that he'd like to try his hand/foot at place-kicking, shows up, and starts nailing 60 yard field goals.  We can't use him without taking a scholarship away from another player?

Re: Class of 2016 - rudruff - 10-13-2014

Or you just fill your men's gymnastics team with backup O-linemen. Let's remember what the other sports mean to an SEC school.

Maybe there should be exceptions for the good guys.  That would be us :)

Re: Class of 2016 - BobK - 10-15-2014

Only six sports are full scholie. All the others partial.  One could be a 100% in a partial scholie sport but not too many.

What are the six?

The "head count" sports are:

Football, men's and women's basketball, women's gymnastics, women's tennis, women's volleyball.

Thanks.  I assume this is the NCAA's idea?  No arguments, just wondering why women's tennis but not men, or why women's gymnastics instead of, for example, men or women's swimming, track, whatever.

Re: Class of 2016 - PrinceLightfoot - 12-03-2014

It looks like the father of wide receiver stud, Brandon Burton, has been doing some due diligence and asking opinions of NFL players. Sounds like Brandon's father is in Stanford's corner here.

Burton is listed as warm for $outhernCal.  How are they perennial title contenders and we are not?  The word he should use is "coincide", and that answer is also "yep".

Costello is Maihen's teammate. Maihen responded with:

Class of 2016 - socalstanfan1 - 01-24-2015

Ok, somebody had to start the thread for next year's recruiting class. This seems to be as good a reason as any to begin.

@kj_costello: Stanford does everything 1st class👌Heading to Flemings for dinner🍴

Word was that Costello joined in the big visit weekend with the class of 2015, though I did not see any tweets from or featuring him. But there was also a report that he might announce a commitment shortly after the weekend was finished.

A commitment from one of the top QBs in the country? Now THAT would be a good way to start the next cycle.
