There's something to be said about seeing the movie first -- I enjoyed the girl with the dragon tattoo movie (swedish version) more than the book -- most likely because I saw it first. And Lefty, I'm embarrassed to admit that I prefer Verhoevan's Starship Troopers to the book.Â
As far as least favorite movie adaptation, it's a close call between Time Traveler's Wife and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I enjoyed the movie version of Starship Troopers as a B grade sci-fi movie, but I had to completely keep it separate from the book, which still stands as my 4th favorite Heinlein book.

For me the Heinlein top ten goes goes:
1) Stranger in a Strange Land
2) The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
3) Time Enough For Love
4) Starship Troopers
5) Farnham's Freehold
6) Have Space Suit Will Travel
7) The Unpleasant Profession of Johnathan Hoag
8) Job: A Comedy of Justice
9) The Puppet Masters
10) I Will Fear No Evil
As you can tell his middle years really resonated with me (60's to early 70's). It may be that at the time that I first read them (7th-11th grade) I was grappling with my putting my atheism into words. He was also my brothers favorite author, and after my brother's death I read all of the books he owned, starting with all the Burroughs books (all 24 Tarazan and 12 John Carter).
To this day I reread a few Heinlein books a year. I think I am on my 5th version of Stranger in a Strange Land, since I keep giving it to people to read.
