While I agree running a post pattern can be effective, I have often wondered which type of wood makes the best posts.  Fence posts specifically.  Any suggestions?

Hedge (or Osage orange) but you have to drive the nails in before the wood seasons or it's like driving a nail into iron. The posts last forever, though.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for.  For the nails, stainless or brass?  And what for the stringers?

No.  Classic hit.

You mean maybe the fence should be pinned instead of nailed?

I guess so.  My first thought was to bind the rails to the posts with sinew and let the sun dry and harden them, but I am not sure that will last forever, as will the posts.  So, go for the quick fix or forever?  Need help fast as I am not getting any younger and my grandchildren are already talking about the day they can sell the land to Walmart.

Cedar or Locust. Redwood if you can afford it and like festering splinters.

Don't Locust devastate the land, bring desruction and famine, and poop on the laundry hanging out to dry?  I don't think the misses would approve.  I was thinking more to use a wildcat formation, putting my cedar runner in the qb position, my redwood qb in the runner position, and binding them with a flysweep knot in the middle.  Then I'll hand it all to my Young one who will evade the locusts coming up the middle.  Or will I run out of time to call that 42 level audible?  How hard can it be?

An orange red card.  The one thing American football could take from soccer.  Get your @$$ off the field, and take that ^&$%^  with you, Pat.

Yvonne is correct of course.  We absolutely could use the services of the great Seraphim "Dynamite" Post who played on the '27 Rose Bowl team and was a Consensus All-American in '28..  The guy was an absolute beast.
