I think the staff gets some credit for a defensive scheme that set up Kalambayi to make those plays.  I've seen some seasons where talented players lost leverage because of schemes that didn't do that.

What about Alfieri and Barton?  There's also Tyler and Veach.  Maybe Barton gets moved to Safety?

Kalambayi now has more yards in tackles for loss than the entire UCLA team.

I really liked . . . getting the W.  ;D  That's all we need to do each week is WTD.  We can win ugly every game and it won't hurt our chances to make the playoffs . . . as long as we win.  It will age us fans more rapidly than nature, but ugly wins won't hurt us if we beat ND, Oregon, UCLA, and the Pac-12 South Division Champion.

Whether or not we make the playoffs, we have a chance to knock 5 teams out of the race -- Washington, ND, Oregon, UCLA, and ourselves.  ;)

I'll be watching the playoffs from a hospital bed at this rate.  "Nurse!  What do you MEAN you don't get the Pac12 Network???"

Thanks Obama!  :P

If it's like most things at the hospital, they'll have the Pac12 Network .... for $100/day with minimum purchase of a week and only in ultra low deff.

At this rate I wont last that week.  Wonder if they'll let the widow and kids use up my leftover time?

The widow and kids won't even notice because they'll be gagging on the $40,000 bill for all the services the hospital says you got before you expired. You see, even though the hospital was a preferred provider under your medical plan, all the services were provided by separate entities with space at the hospital. Those entities are not preferred providers and are free to price gouge you. Since your widow probably signed the admission paperwork when you came in passed out, they will pursue her relentlessly for every penny.

Yeah. I know there are honest dedicated medical professionals out there. But don't count on that being what you get.

How quickly you all forget Trent Murphy...???????  Kalambayi may get to that level, but keep in mind Murphy led FBS in sacks last season

I think people are commenting as much or more on the way Kalambayi is getting the sacks as on the number of those sacks.  Murphy was a sackmaster, but got those sacks in a much different manner.

Re: REALLY liked... - washingtonismoney - 09-29-2014

Yeah, exactly. Trent was a good athlete with a number of other great traits (relentlessness, motor, intelligence, etc.). To me, Kalambayi appears to be a special one (though we haven't necessarily had a chance to really examine those "other traits." Athleticism is obvious but the more qualitative traits take a while to emerge.)

Re: REALLY liked... - teejers1 - 09-30-2014

scorecard and martyup, I think the Big Cat Stalking Its Prey analogy is right on the mark with Kalambayi.  It is measured, sudden, and ferocious . . . all rolled into one.

He may be just the kind of defender needed to help neutralize Golson a bit.

Re: REALLY liked... - TrumpCard - 09-30-2014

Kalambayi is a good one, but I am not sure ferocious is the word I would use to describe the sacks on Saturday.  Kalambayi's sacks on Saturday all came as a result of his exceptional ability to mirror Cyrus and drag him down.  Ferocious applies more to Murphy's hit on Connor Halliday last year.    :o

Re: REALLY liked... - fullmetal - 09-30-2014

The one-armed sack was a display of ferocious tenacity.

Re: REALLY liked... - jeboody - 09-30-2014

I'll get it in on this semantics debate. I've got to agree with TrumpCard; even Kalambayi's one-armed sack was less about ferociousness and more about persistence & brute strength (well, I'm sure he used some leverage to drag Miles to his position of the ground)

Re: REALLY liked... - fullmetal - 10-01-2014

He sold out on that sack.  That arm was limp and fatigued getting up after the play.
