My brain says this was probably not good for us...but my heart is smiling.
Glad we don't have to play Arizona.
Bet the folks at K.all are kicking themselves...

So... is AZ that good (and have been playing down to the opponent when they played C.al et al.) or is Oregon that bad?

The latter, if only temporarily. Arizona played to single-score games with UTSA, Nevada, and the 59ers before this game. That kind of performance in one-score games can't be sustained.
Oregon looks like what people worried would happen when Shaw took over for Harbaugh. If anything, Oregon's performance is even worse given Helfrich has gotten two years out of Mariota.

I'm not so sure. Every team in the North has a conference loss to a team from the South. It may mean that the South has caught up. In addition, kal took this team that beat Oregon to the wire. This may well mean parity.

Impressive Zona defense coming up with that strip-sack to end Oregon's final drive. Oregon's OL could be a weak point...but now they know, and they might be ready for Stanford in a month.

Washington's loss was to a team from the North, us.

Mine is smiling as well, but my brain says it is definitely good for us. Presumably we won't get the boost of a marquee victory over an undefeated Oregon, but particularly if Oregon loses to UCLA (and their games against Washington, OSU, and Utah no longer look like gimmes), it opens the door big time in the North for us. And if that gets us into the Pac-12 title game, that's all that matters because the Pac-12 champ gets into the playoff.

And everyone in the Pac-12 North should be exceedingly happy Zona pulled out wins in those non-conference games (and that Oregon beat Mich. State).

Well, what if the Pac-12 champ has three losses--two in conference? Does that champ definitely get into the playoff? Let's say we win out in the North but drop a conference game to ASU or Utah or UCLA. We will win the Pac 12 North. Assume we win the Conference championship. Then will our game with Notre Dame have a lot to say about whether we make the playoffs? Would a Pac 12 champion team with 3 losses make it?Â
Honest question, I don't understand how this new fangled system works. But I can't help but feel that Oregon's loss might make this weekend's game all the more important to get a marquee win on the road.

Stanford just needs to win out. Early season losses can be forgiven (oh how recency works its magic). A convincing win over Notre Dame would be great this weekend seeing as how that's Stanford's last shot to contribute toward conference legitimacy.
Hope we follow the Arizona playbook and party it up in the backfield!

Nobody understands how this new-fangled system works. It's the first year and the "rules" are intentionally vague as to just how the committee is supposed to weigh various criteria.
The conference that should have taken a massive body blow last night is the Big Ten. After dropping OOC games left and right, the big loss by their top ranked team ought to look substantially more questionable after Oregon's very wobbly start to Pac 12 play.
The issue now is how well N.-D. does (they play 4 substantial games, Stanford, ASU, S.-C., FSU) and whether a second SEC team with fewer losses than the Pac 12 champ would get the nod.

There are definitely way too many uncertainties left to have any idea how this affects the playoff picture. For instance, the SEC West looks clearly superior to the East, but none of the teams are head and shoulders above the rest. What if the best teams both have two conference losses? What if FSU loses to ND but the PAC runs the table against them? What if the Big-12 teams beat each other up?
Lots of things that can happen to make a 2- or even 3-loss PAC-12 team look like a reasonable candidate for the playoff.

I could see this being a crazy, 2007-style season. The only elite team I see is Alabama, and their schedule is tough.

Watched a bit of Oregon State-Colorado game during our half time. Troy Walters was getting a lot of nice comments from the announcers. For those who don't remember, Walters was Biletnikoff Award winner as part of Stanford's 1999 team. He is now wide receivers coach for Colorado.

Half way through the second quarter, ASU is ahead of the spoiled children 15-7. Is it possible something good could happen today?

It's Sark, after all, so don't be surprised if SC finishes 6-6 or 7-5.

SC giving up 540 yards makes our meagre offensive output look, well, worse.
