Rector is not an ideal intermediate option. He's too small a target for an Qb who cannot throw a quick, hard, intermediate pass. Hogan needs someone with a bigger strike zone.
Regarding strengths:
A very good blocking fullback. Of far less value, however, without a complimentary power back behind him. It encourages to run plays that average 4,00 yard per carry.
Good deep threats and a QB who throws a very good deep ball. Harder to exploit when safeties don't fear your running back and know you want to air it out and rely on big plays rather than move-the-chains, powe/play action football.
The first or second team all conference tight end.
More speed than we are accustomed to in our running backs, but pretty hard to run wide in pros or college. Linebackers are faster, cornerbacks are bigger and many can tackle. If you don't have a running back who figures to make at least HM all conference. running back isn't a strength with or without excellent speed.

Hulk- I'm not sure I agree that Ward is such a good blocking fullback. Perhaps decent. He hasn't impressed me in the instances when I have made a point to watch him lead.
Also, about the lack of a back who can take it to the house, am I the only one surprised about Sanders' apparent lack of speed? He seems to have neither great burst nor great top-end speed. He has great vision, but I thought he would be more explosive.

McCaffrey appears to have that top end gear but it is only featured as a gunner.
96th total offense
91st total scoring offense
89th total rushing offense
69th total passing offense

Agreed
Christian gets his hands on the ball early, gains 18 yards, and is never heard from again. WTF is going on!

How often was McCaffrey in? Whether or not he's in the game is on the coaches, to a large extent whether or not he touches the ball is on Hogan. (I know it's not quite that simple, but it's close.)

I would not rank pass blocking as a strength. We have a more mobile than average QB yet rank 88th in the country for sack percentage. Oue pass blocking has been our weakest since the bad old days.

Please, please tell me that is an experience issue and not a skill issue.

Let me be more specific. The OTs are strong in pass protection. The interior OL aren't.
Hogan is not great, but he has proven he is good enough to get to Rose Bowls. You can't altogether suck as a QB to do that. There are many offensive strengths being masked by poor schemes, bad game plans, and personnel misuse.
