So, it sounds like the purpose of the meet was to advance and that people didn't care whether they were first or third, as long as they made it to Eugene. Our best runner "cruised to second," and competition in the PV ended at a height at which 10 people cleared.

Right, the regionals, 2, advance the top 12 in each event. So now 24 in each event at Eugene.Â
The field events were top 12, but the running events were along the lines of top 3 in each of 3 heats plus the fastest 3.Â

Actually, 15 Stanford athletes are heading for Eugene. Thirteen qualified today, plus two yesterday (McGorty and Olson in the men's 5000m).

Sorry, misread the press release. The men 5000m runners were among the 13 who qualified yesterday. I can't figure out who qualified earlier; but as the release makes clear at its bottom, there'll be 15 Cardinal competing in Eugene.
