He has 8 HRS in 14 games, 33 for the year.  I think he's a lock for the September callups.

Crowded outfield.  Nice problem to have.

4 game road sweeps are fairly rare. Pillar has been terrific. But he plays very deep. Thought the ball Jones hit should have been caught.

Just not their day. Next 5 against Cubs and As on road. Could be out of WC race by end of week.

Geez Lex, keep your wet blanket to yourself.

lex24 - lex24 - 08-19-2019

LOL. I just keep hoping I’ll continue to be wrong. I thought they were done after the Nationals series. Wrong.

Count me as a wet blanket. Beede just gave up his 2nd HR in the bottom of the 1st and he hasn’t even gotten the side out yet.

RE: The Giants - Phogge - 08-20-2019

Even Bobbbbb can hit a piped straight FB from Beede. He doesn’t throw hard enough to use the middle of the plate.

RE: The Giants - BobK - 08-20-2019

Yet it’s 3-3. Don’t give up so fast.

RE: The Giants - BobK - 08-20-2019

Whoops. Lost 5-3. Must win next two.

RE: The Giants - Phogge - 08-20-2019

Looking ahead I don’t see Suarez as part of the staff. Plus Beede has no clue. They will have to sign a starter in free agency unless they can rebuild Sal Maglie from DNA.

I'd love to see Sal the Barber pitch to Puig...or Bellinger, or Turner, or...

That Andrew Baggarly article in The Athletic on Samardzija and Beede sure was a fascinating read this morning.

If Webb, Hjelle, and Corry don't develop into above .500 starters, the Giants are hosed, even if the position player talent in the system develops as hoped.

The Red Sox are a team with a ridiculous array of talent all over the diamond, yet because their starting pitching is even worse than the Giants, they are not making the playoffs this year.  They won last year because the starting pitching was good enough to compliment their juggernaut lineup.

RE: The Giants - BobK - 08-21-2019

Thanks for the ad outsider.

Cueto pitched ok last night. Pitched into the 5th gave up 2 runs then 2 scored when The next pitcher was in

RE: The Giants - Phogge - 08-21-2019

Corry is the guy.

RE: The Giants - qwerty49 - 08-21-2019

I fear it just ain’t happening, guys.

D-Rod’s allowed 6 runs in 3 innings and despite a Longo 2-run HR in the 1st, they’re down 6-2 after 3.

Home runs by Pillar, Yastrzemski, Longoria and Vogt have turned into a 9-7 lead for the Giants.  It's an uncharitable thought, but at 7-7 and watching Derek Holland warm up in the bullpen, I KNEW that we would end up in the lead.

Belt walk, Brandon Crawford infield single, then Slater comes in for PH double knocking in both (though Slater was thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple). Yaz doubled. Stanford's Slater now at .302/.413/.547/.960.

And they have Craig Kimbrel and we don’t. Cubs win, 12-11.

Ironically, the bullpen coughs up the season multiple times tonight.

RE: The Giants - BostonCard - 08-21-2019

The games they were winning by one run in July are now one run losses.

Reversion to the mean.

RE: The Giants - Phogge - 08-21-2019

Two things: Slater can hit but he makes mistakes. Needs work in the OF.

The other is that this team played zombie baseball for months and now they are electrifying win or lose. Great entertaining ride the last seven weeks. More than we could ask for.

Huuge offseason for Farhan. Needs to shred deadweight players and rebuild the pitching staff. All Solano does is get hits. Has to play every day. Has to eat the Belt contract. Never a star and now a liability.
