Utah leads 6-4. Only two more at bats for us. The reliever that Utah has on the mound right now has looked pretty tough.

Hmm. Let my try something: yes indeed, this reliever has been lights out.

Well, that kind of worked. Utah allows a run to walk in on a HBP. Bases still loaded with no outs.

Could not score any more. Now up to Quinn Mathews, who pitched perfect 6th & 7th innings on 22 pitches.

Mathew’s hasn’t given up a run since May 1, according to the announcers and the statement holds true through the 8th. Gave up a leadoff single, then fielded a sac bunt attempt brilliantly to get the lead runner at second, then induced a DP on the next pitch.

We are now 2 games behind 1st place Oregon State and 1 game ahead of UCLA. It's still mathematically possible for us to win the regular season title. OSU and UCLA play each other next weekend. Rooting for the Bruins. And rooting for another sweep against USC.

UCLA goes to Corvallis. 

Stanford has tie breakers over both as they took two of three in the respective series (both on the road).

#5 in Baseball America rankings
#4 in USA Today coaches' poll
#4 in Collegiate Baseball rankings
They obviously think we should be hosting.

#13 in RPI with a big jump from winning 3 on the road. That's approaching the region where it won't be a big hindrance for a top 8 seed.

Crucial back to back sweeps to make up (in part) for dropping a series in Seattle. As someone who is always critical of coaching decisions, I must tip my cap to Coach Esquer. He has two veteran arms in Williams and Mathews that are absolutely dealing week in and week out. The adjustment he made to Mathews' role (as a band-aid for a struggling bullpen) completely turned the season around. This weekend was a great example of the evolution of the game plan. In Seattle, Mathews was called upon early in game 3, to get the game back on track, which he did. However, using him early left a few outs for the rest of the bullpen to get and that turned sour fast. Yesterday he let the game play out knowing he could get about 4 innings out of Mathews. Rather than using him to get out of a messy 2nd inning, he waited. Other arms stepped up to steady to game. All of the sudden Mathews is in the game in the 6th and despite a 3 run deficit, it sure felt like Stanford was in a great position to win that game. Credit to the bats for giving this team plenty of chances. Credit to Mathews for getting outs whenever called upon. Credit to Esquer for taking a non traditional route to finding ways to win games!

Not sure if there is a regular season winner, the winner of the tournament will get the automatic bid and the Pac 12 baseball title. They are doing this to get more teams into regional play. The selection committee is all SEC and ACC bias anyway, not sure if it will matter. Kyle Peterson is a big Vandy fanboy. We are playing for seeding and hosting! Last projection had us hosting.

Final score 19 -0. I think I'm even happier with the zero part than I am with the nineteen. The pitching staff held SCU to three hits. And just as impressive, they only issued 3 walks, threw 1 wild pitch and gave up no HBPs. O'Rourke threw a lot of strikes and looked comfortable behind a five-run lead and some nice defense.
