On Blue Star Carly is ranked # 28.

Thanks for the info.  She is actually ranked higher on Blue Star than Swain who was the starting PG on the U16 national team.   Amborn was also one of the ~50 players at the U16 trials.

I don't think this subject has ever come up before, but to what extent, if any, is the good footwork required in tennis a plus for defense in basketball?

No idea, but I remember one of our past guards, Toni Kokenis, had unusual footwork on defense that folks said came from her soccer background. She kept her feet always moving with lots of small steps.

Ironically, I had Toni in the back of my head when I was thinking about this. She was always very easy to root for.

Ironically, I had Toni in the back of my head when I was thinking about this.  She was always very easy to root for.

I’ll never forget the time Toni knocked a loose ball down court and towards the basket instead of grabbing it, and kept running down court and caught up to the ball. That’s when I started seeing her soccer skills come to play

Excited to see this as we really need size.  The class of 2022, 2023, and 2024 had only Agara and Umeh as our only bigs.  Peterson is ranked #34 by Prospects Nation and this is their recent writeup:

Peterson has the size and length to play inside but the vision, passing and shooting ability to play anywhere on the court.  Surrounding her with elite players who understand spacing and movement is dangerous as she can beat you scoring it or passing it.  Her game is unique and fun to watch.

I called this one months ago. Peterson has long been a Stanford lean. Congrats to her! I don't think the press release means we are necessarily done.  Edwards, Heckel, and Blake all still remain players of interest.

OK, all the usual caveats that ESPN ratings are often not accurate, etc.  

I checked all the ESPN recruiting ratings going back to 2009 where they are no longer accessible.  Judging by the rating of our top recruit, this will be our lowest level in all that time.  The two years that come closest were in 2016 we had Nadia Fingall at 27 and in 2015 we had Marta Sniezek at 38.  This year Ume has the top rating at 42.

What are the odds that we will add a highly rated recruit?  Jones, iirc, was not announced until some time after her classmates were announced, so it is certainly not without precedent.  Or perhaps someone like Smith from overseas?  Those recruits seem to not always follow the conventional calendar.

2009 Tinkle was #10, 2008 Nneka was #6, 2007 Pedersen #4, 2006 Appel #3; you'd probably have to go as far as 2005, but I believe ASGR had Harmon in their top 30. 2004 Wiggins was top 10. 

Not great seeing us miss on top talent this year. Hoping our 2023's can pan out. But feels like times are changing, for sure.

I'm unpinning this 2024+ thread. Please post about WBB recruiting in the new 2025+ thread, not here, unless it's about the remaining 2024 possibles. I think we're still hoping faintly that we get another 2024 signee. Very faintly. If that becomes a hot topic, the thread will stay active even though it's not pinned anymore.
