Recruiting updates
2026 potential Maddy Greenway has her 6 finalists including us. Her final 6 are:
Stanford
UCLA
Iowa
Kentucky
Duke
Clemson
She plans to announce in November. To me, she seems destined for Iowa where her dad played football. '
McKenna Wolickzo will announce her finalists this Friday. I'm optimistic we will be included in her final group.
Haven't heard much on Somfai since her visit, but she continues to show signs of maybe leaning Stanford (I hope) as she's started following all the Stanford 2025 class on her social media. She didn't visit the same weekend as them but they would all be teammates next year. I think it's between us and Uconn. Somfai also moved up to #16 in her class. ESPN updated their player rankings again today. Swain stayed at #9, Eschmeyer at #31.

Per an Iowa insider, she doesn't want to follow into her father's footsteps at Iowa. As of right now, the odds are on Duke snatching up Greenway.

Usually we start the new recruiting thread after the early signing period when Stanford announces the class. Will that happen this year with the NCAA having announced the end of the National Letter of Intent? Or are NLIs still happening this year?...

Googling a bit, I see some sites saying that early signing this year is Nov 13-20.

Early signing period starts in 1 week. Can we expect Somfai to announce then? We could have a compelling case for the #1 class but likely #2 behind LSU if we land her regardless of where the other undecideds sign. This is a going to be a stellar class. Reminds me of the class with Haley, Fran, Hannah, and Ashton. Except leading the way is an elite PG in Hailee Swain, something we’ve missed in many recruiting classes.

There are still a handful of top profile recruits yet to commit including the #1 Aaliyah Chavez so the rankings could still be significantly re-shuffled before it is said and done. UCLA and USC have gotten the #2 and #3 recruits respectively (two who at one point we were hoping to secure - Sienna Betts, Lauren's younger sister and Jasmine Davidson) and I suspect the only reason the schools are currently not on ESPN's list is that they are the only commits right now.
Chavez has UCLA as one of her finalists so the Bruins would certainly skyrocket up the recruiting class rankings with the top two recruits of the class if she chooses them.

Caitlin Clark called UConn "everybody's dream school" (Geno didn't recruit her because he had Paige).
Hopefully she is the exception that proves the rule.

I’ll say this much: anyone who was on the fence about Stanford until they saw how the team plays under Kate must surely be off that fence by now. We need to get the recruiting momentum rolling!

When was the last time we won a head-to-head recruiting battle with an announcement date? Seems like a lot of them have gone against us of late. It seems like when we have gotten commitments, it has just been announced without much fanfare.
I gotta say I’m prepared to be disappointed (again).

The last one such I remember is Haley Jones, who had an announcement date and a big deal event of her announcement. As I recall, she had let Tara know several days earlier, but kept is a secret, or maybe I misremember that part.

Well, if you look at the top 100 recruiting rankings, we have two forwards committed and UConn has none. Also Somfai has a teammate who has committed to UConn who no doubt is working on her.
Not real good signs for us, I fear.
Hope to be pleasantly surprised though (just like I was at our blowout of Gonzaga).
