Very Important Match coming up Sunday vs. Miami. A surprise team in the ACC, the Hurricanes knocked off Pitt (in Miami) last week. If you are in the area, this would be a good match to see. Also a chance for Stanford to rinse out the bad taste from losing to Miami in their little band box gym last year.

FSU looks jet lagged in the first set. They are hitting below 0 (5 kills, 9 errors) in the first set. Or, maybe FSU is just overmatched. Anyway, we’re up 20-9.

5-0 scoring run to end the second set 25-13. And I would like to amend my previous point about the slide, both Sayer and Andrew execute it well; Sayer had back-to-back kills on the slide to get us to set point.
FSU still hitting below 0 (-0.015). Rubin got hot after a rough first set and got six kills. Kurt now has 8 kills for the match. Stanford hitting .426.

Sadly, I feel like this will be us on Saturday when we play them on the football field. But nice day on the Stanford/FSU rivalry day. Women’s soccer won 2-1.

I've seen it so many times. A team has blow out wins in the first two sets and then falls flat in the third set.

Stanford ties it at 21 but then goes down 25-22 after a successful FSU challenge on set point.
On the good side, we get to watch more volleyball. Hopefully Stanford can stay focused.

I suppose if you want to take a polyannaish view of things, you could say that after we dug ourselves a 15-5 hole, we outscored FSU 17-10 the rest of the way with a couple nice runs.

Statistically, Blyashov is having the better season so far.
Blyashov: 94 kills, 31 errors, 231 attacks for a .273 hitting percentage and 2.85 kills/set
Kurt: 64 kills, 31 errors, 199 attacks for a .166 hitting percentage and 2.13 kills/set
Kurt is doing a little bit better on serve (10 aces to 15 errors vs. 4 aces to 16 errors for Blyashov); they are about even in digs and receiving errors. Blyashov has 10 block assists versus 6 for Kurt. Blyashov has played a couple more sets than Kurt but it is pretty even (33 vs. 30).
None of this takes opponent into account, but the stats favor Blyashov. Still, we will need both of them next year when Rubin graduates.

Regarding the 3rd set, is the coach having their players work on something different in these situations where a win seems assured? Note that the players then get to play from behind, which is likely to be a skill needed in the matches against the best teams. Compare that to a ho-hum, stomped another team feeling.
