Here is one to put on the radar.
Matthew Katnik (4.33 GPA) was offered a scholarship from Track & Field, but he also plays OG at St. John Bosco...good size (6'4" 298 lbs) and nice film.
Given that we were planning on only offering three offensive linemen in this class, he would be a nice addition that wouldn't "cost" us anything if he chooses to walk-on. He currently has no offers, so I am guessing he hasn't really participated much in the camp circuit or his ability isn't that impressive overall outside of the highlight tape.

Well, during his redshirt year he's not playing football. "Playing football" means playing at least one play in one game.

They have to do it that way to keep the SEC from being full of 300lb gymnasts.

To be clear, this is only if he sees playing time on the field. We have plenty of walk-ons who don't see the field at all, or who don't even get to play even in garbage time (see the Big Game this year) until their third or fourth year in the program.

After reading the Drukarev piece on Arrington Farrar, does anyone have any insight into why Stanford hasn't yet appeared to offer Rivals #8 SDE Russell Ude? He seems like a good cultural fit for Stanford, based on the fact he says he wants "a degree that sets me up in the global economy."
He's going to be visiting the CA PAC-12 school this Summer and also maybe Oregon. But only Cal of this group has offered him, which seems strange. He has a 3.6 GPA and an 1800+ SAT and is shooting for 2000, I guess before they go back to the two-part arrangement.

I think we would get Ude if we offered. Don't know why we haven't, unless maybe we are waiting to see him sign up for two AP classes.

A number of possibilities:
a) the coaches rate Ude differently than Rivals (or, indeed, many of his offers). Rivals obviously likes him, but other rating services feel differently: 247 has him as a high three star (88/100 rating); Scout thinks he's the #65! DE; ESPN doesn't rate him at his position and thinks he's a three star. So it's not as if the coaches are lone dissidents or anything; it seems opinion's pretty divided on him.
b) the coaches rate him, but not as highly as other players at his position and feel that not offering Ude isn't damaging their prospects -- like, say, a Jesse Burkett or Reilly Gibbons, Ude will value the Stanford package irrespective of when it's offered.
c) the coaches rate him, but would like him to camp again, for whatever reason (slight variant of c).
d) the coaches have no interest at all in Ude
e) the coaches like Ude, but feel he is -- for whatever reason -- not a great fit for a 3-4 scheme.
f) an Ude offer is forthcoming!
Don't know! Could be any of those things. The lack of information in recruiting means that speculation's the only real way to go.

4* CB Garrett Taylor visited Michigan this weekend and says he's accelerating the process and may commit soon. Down to Stanford, Mich, and Tenn. According to Michigan insiders, he supposedly loved his visit to Ann Arbor. Based on his pushed up timetable, some "experts" think he will verbal to the Wolverines. We were the presumed leader.

Interesting how the Rivals story has Taylor with Stanford his #1 choice in his just announced Top 5. Of course, Jabril Peppers had Stanford #1 too, until he realized he didn't want to do the extra work to get in, and after visiting PSU, OSU, and Michigan. Garrett Taylor seems a lot more predisposed to put in the extra work for Stanford, based on the fact he still has Stanford #1 after his Michigan visit.

I'm afraid this may have changed. In his twitter, Taylor put Michigan ahead of Stanford. Hopefully that was just done in the flush of excitement after visiting Ann Arbor, and if he slows down a bit and thinks it over, he will let the application process at Stanford start to work its way out.

Rosen to UCLA. I know many here wanted him but it doesn't look like the coaches plan on taking a QB n this class, which I personally think is the right choice.
A kid I really like for 2016 is Jarrett Guarantano from Jersey same school as Garrett Dickerson and Kurt Holuba

I don't think it is necessarily true that the coaches are not going to take a QB in the 2015 class, I just believe the staff for some reason does not think Rosen was the right QB to take. We offered Ricky Town which shows that we are willing to take a QB. I would not be surprised if they continue evaluating the QB prospects and offer someone like Brady White or Travis Waller or some QB that we dont even know about.
Further, I think it is a good idea to take a QB every year if you can get one worth taking. None of these players are sure things when they are recruited and the high level of competition between a few highly rated recruits should bring out the best in them.
As for 2016, I don't know anything about Guarantano but that is a good football school. KJ Costello is a name to watch as is Messiah de Weaver (an amazing name, but he might be hard to pull out of Ohio).

I was saying it more along the lines of the fact that we have had some trouble getting players from the Midwest because of the draw of schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame
