The Wade move irked me, but understanding their weekly match ups(facing a bunch of Lefty's) I get it now.

I'll tell you this, in the sample size we saw, Wade is a big leaguer, maybe he's a 4th or 5th guy on a really good team but belongs.

Jaylin Davis has figured it out in AAA, but maybe he's another giants AAAA OF.

Slater has an option left. I prefer Wade. Tauchman no options.

Agree, Jeebs. Wade earned a position. An OF by trade, he was excellent at 1B. He had a number of difficult plays there and smoothly handled all of them.  I'd send Vosler, dfa Tauchman and return him to Sacto when nobody claims a .187 hitter.

Bet Wade is back this weekend

Only if someone goes on the IL in which case he can return anytime.  Otherwise, he has to remain in Sacto for ten days.

Note:  That was the rule in the past.  I am assuming it is still on the books.

The rule used to be ten days for position players and fifteen days for pitchers, this year it was modified to ten days for all players.

What message do you send when you send a guy down that was performing as well as Wade?  I understand the options “dilemma”.  But I also think they would have DFA’d Tauchman had they not given up a serviceable major league relief pitcher for him.  I do think he gets picked up if they release him

Thanks for the clarification.

No message other than, “Stay ready because you will be back here soon”.

So agree with Giants and given all our injuries I’ll bet Wade back in less than 10 days although thanks for the rule

I know Tauchman made some good catches.  But I'd rather've kept Wade.

Davis is hitting .281 in AAA, but with 7 extra base hits in 32 ABs...his OPS is 1.128.  He's had consistent improvement every year in the minors.  I don't know that he's AAAA or big league ready, but at least he's improving.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - BobK - 06-22-2021

Davis 32 ABs is his season. He was IL until recently

So Belt does bunt and gets a base hit and RBI out of it. It was a squeeze, but still, it shows he should do it more often. Don't let them shift.

Also, did you see the called third strike on Slater in the top of the 6 th? It was at least six inches outside. Bad calls are one thing, but this wasn't close.

I can't wait for a technological approach to calling balls and strikes.

To be fair, this ump is calling everything with a very wide strike zone. Maybe he thinks the game is over and wants to go to dinner. I think it will be a while before MLB will accept an all electronic balls and strikes call. It would be interesting if the umps had an earphone interfaced to the computer that would make the call. The ump could then pretend to call balls and strikes. That you might sell.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - Phogge - 06-22-2021

The Padres bring Machado into a short right field in their shift against certain lefties. He seems closer to the wall at Petco than he is to the infield dirt. Tonight Muncy hit a bullet on one hop and he was thrown out by a third baseman playing RF. Cut to Muncy shaking his head. Not many power guys are willing to bunt but this time the Dodgers needed baserunners.

It's pretty clear that MLB is already committed to implementing an electronic strike zone.

1. The most recent labor agreement between MLB and the Major League Baseball Umpires Association included language about umpires "cooperating and assisting" with the implementation of an electronic strike zone once the commissioner decides to move forward.

2. The Trackman electronic strike zone has already been tested by MLB in the Atlantic League and the Arizona Fall League over the last two years and this year is being used in the Southeast League.

There is still a home plate umpire conducting all the other officiating duties and announcing balls and strikes. Implementation of this technology is not imminent but MLB is moving hard towards it, and the biggest obstacle (the umpires union) has been addressed.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - JeebsOak - 06-23-2021

The strike zone last night was the worst I've seen in probably 5-10 years +

The call on Slater..my goodness ball was at least 8 inches off the plate, not remotely close.

The mlb has a problem, a big problem with their perception right now. Last night was ugly for the game(the pat down situation)

Giants are rolling, clear playoff team.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - Phogge - 06-23-2021

Time to send Slater out. Needs to play every day and figure it out.

I would not be surprised to see him traded next month.  He has stalled out with the Giants.  Perhaps a fresh start elsewhere might get him going again.

Also in one of those funks:  he had a base hit to 2B in short center field overturned on replay.  I was mildly surprised the call was overturned on the video shown.  Regardless, I think Slater messed up his run to first base by taking an extra small step before reaching the bag.  Funk.

Then instead of a walk, Slater gets rung up on a really, really bad strike 3 call (and the first strike in the AB was also a ball).

Get a hit, instead of an out, and a walk instead of (another) K, and the box score/plate appearances look a lot better.
