Big difference was rebounding, 37-21 Villanova favor. Wish I could have seen the game, just was following it on ESPN gamecast and play by play. At any rate, predictions that UConn would run the table from yesterday to the end are now proved wrong. Hooray, another +1 for Tara over Gino.
Now . . . off to watch another game, Stanford/OSU, which I recorded while I was actually at the game. I think I'll skip the 1st quarter, though. That was ugly except for Cam's three baskets at the beginning.
UConn only had six players available.

Then perhaps impressive that UConn did as well as it did, especially in the 4th quarter when their players had to be tired. With only 6, could they have made a case for the came to be postponed? I thought the rule was that a team had to have 7 scholarship players available. Whatever the answers to this, the fact is that this is an official loss, and it goes in the books and on their record that way -- no matter the reason.
More info from the Boneyard, perhaps the answer to why not postponed due to UConn not having enough players -- Nelson-Ododa was listed in the official start list at game time -- giving UConn 7 players, then was pulled literally at last minute, did not play. Or so it appears from what I can infer.

Looking at the box score, Nova seems to have mainly played with 6 players too. 3 bench players did get into the game, but 2 of them didn't take a shot, didn't score, had 1 rebound, and a foul.

Why was UConn down to 6? COVID or something else?

Not really down to 6. 2 players, Gabriel and Deberry on bench but NEVER play
Dorka still suffering from injury, ododa scratched b4 game.

Might have been discussed here before, but likely this is to make up the forfeited game (by UCLA) which won't count toward conference standings but will count as an NCAA game for NCAA tournament consideration.
Interesting that Oregon rescheduled. Seems less pressing than getting in conference games that do count for your standing, and will be a lot more tired for the game against us after a few weeks of games almost every other.

Ducharme also still out with head injury. ONO in lineup but scratched just before tip. No post presence at all, got killed on the boards. Fudd and Williams showed up, nobody else did. We get someone back, and someone else goes out. Can't catch a break.

while it's true that uconn is suffering from injuries, how many 5 star players do you need? fudd, williams, westbrook, edwards, & deberry were available. only south carolina has a roster comparable to those 5. stanford starts 2 top 15 recruits: jones and brink.

With Uconn losing again last night, are they at best this season a 3 seed? That don't really have many opportunities left to improve their resume. While I know they can be dangerous if at full strength, it's also hard to just flip a switch and put it all together for the NCAA tournament. I don't know that will happen for them with it already being near mid February. We've had seasons with injuries where its just not our year too. It happens.
I feel really good about our chances to make a deep run in the tourney. Our depth is unmatched and our top talent is as good as anybody's if we stay healthy. Sometimes it takes a little luck in the tourney but I'd relish a chance to play SC again in the Final 4 or championship game. And if we are fortunate enough to get to that point, anything can happen. Let's keep it going!

You mean like having your opponent miss a point-blank shot at the buzzer and you escape with a 1-point W as a result?
Yeah, I think we'd all agree that in most tourney runs, you need some luck.
But as noted in this thread, first and foremost, you need good player health; then you need enough good players playing well in the games - that's not, btw, near-peak performance from everyone (I don't think Ki played her best ball in FF, for sure, but she still contributed); and I might add an extraordinary performance from a non-star along the way (Prechtel the bacon-saver in last year's Elite 8); then sprinkle in some good old fashioned luck. Get those and Stanford should be in good shape.
The good news is that Stanford's depth should give the team a great chance to tick off those factors . . . and then there's your luck point!
P.S. For our UConn fan, I still expect UConn to be a FF team, even if the healthy roster hasn't had a lot of time playing together. But I am assuming the roster is back by then.

As a result of UConn's loss to Villanova yesterday, they have dropped from 6 to 11 in the NCAA net rankings, down only 1 place in Massey from previous 7 to now 8. In Massey, Stanford holds steady at #2, with #1 SOS. (Stanford continues #3 in net ranking, with North Carolina State as #2 despite recent loss to Notre Dame)
There will be a new NCAA "reveal" this afternoon. Will be watching to see how the past two weeks of turmoil for top teams has affected things.

Texas is a team I'd rather not play again. Of course much will change before the tournament, so it doesn't worry me.

Right, this is just a snapshot in time, not a prediction. Especially as you go down the s-curve, even small changes will mean dramatically different match-ups so it really isn’t worth expending much energy worrying or celebrating at the current projections.

I would relish watching our team take out that Texas team. I don't think their screaming banshee defense would work on us a second time.

I chuckled at your description of their defense ;)
And I agree, I think we would be far better prepared and more confident if we played them again.
