Did you hear a name?

We will take first name, last name, or name of current employer...

Assuming that the name will still be that of someone still playing, who does that leave?  While I suppose Troy Taylor could announce right before a brobdingnagian game, but it seems quite unlikely.

Rice is one of the few schools I can see that keep any contacts under wrap.

I’d rather other names on the list but my gut is telling me Bloomgren at this point.

from their most recent form 990 I found it looks like Bloomgren's total comp from Rice was $904k in CY2020

The 5-7 Rice Owls are playing in the LendingTree Bowl in Mobile on the 17th, so they are still in season and playing. . . .

In five years at Rice, Mike Bloomgren's record is 16-38, with no winning seasons. Not good enough to merit hiring him, IMO.

December 21 is the start of the early signing period for football, so there is a time issue of getting a head coach announced, so this may be the driving force to announce this week regardless of who the individual is and if they are coaching in a bowl game.

given the number of coaches hired from teams with bowl games left I don't think that will be a barrier to any announcement

REITERARE?!?

Not even sure how autocorrect got that thru auto spell check. . . .

Sorry Einstein, only a state college grad. We didn't have spelling. I know you Stanford guys have a spellcheck gene in your medulla along with the elite gene.

Missed the reply, sorry. I was an engineering major. Spelling never my fortay. . . .

Ah I didn’t realize Rice at 5-7 made it into a bowl game. I’ll retract my guess that it’s Bloomgren.

Jim Leonard of Wisconsin has announced that he isn’t coming back after the bowl game. I wonder if he has a new job lined up. :)

Have to say, there haven’t been a ton of leaks about the process. If a coach really is being announced tomorrow, I’m a little surprised that Twitter hasn’t been abuzz with a name.  Maybe it’s on one of the other sites, or maybe no one cares, or maybe Muir runs a tight ship…

My guess. No one cares. Or worse, it's so inconsequential that no one cares.

It's because basically nobody outside the process is even aware a coach is imminently being announced.

The main name Twitter has been abuzz with is Greg Roman because of the volume of Ravens fans clamoring for him to GTFO of Baltimore. (I don't think it'll be Roman.)

I’m increasingly intrigued by Jason Garrett. Not a perfect hire, but a pretty successful NFL head coach oughta be able to put together a strong staff. I’d think that the NFL pedigree would be attractive to recruits, and he’s gotta still be a big name in Texas.

It sounds to me like those in the know and/or well informed communicate a sense of calmness and confidence in the process.

Is that off?

Never a good sign when the mob clamors for ouster.

These days the announcement by the hiring school is typically anti-climactic. The world has known for hours.

I don’t see Petersen in that list. He shot down UNLV rumors but hasn’t been on record dismissing Stanford. Unless I’m missing something.

Don't leave those here in the dark. Who else got that call?

FWIW, rumors posted elsewhere suggest that Roman, Pep Hamilton, Bronco Mendenhall, and Vic Fangio are out of the running. I don't know how credible this information is, so take it with a grain of salt.
