UConn won its Big East quarter final by 30. Most significant item of interest, Fudd played, did not start but scored 10. Shades of bringing Paige back at start of tournament last year UConn will be dangerous.
Lots of other significant games today, including Louisville beating Notre Dame 64-38. Olivia Miles out at Notre Dame is a big hole.

end up in different Regionals, then they are my two best bets to reach the Final Four.
The other 2 spots are really up for grabs, and this includes Stanford.
I chose not to comment on Stanford WCBB these past several weeks,
because I really have been very disappointed with their up and down season,
considering that everyone has remained healthy and they have
so much more talent than any of the teams they lost to with the exception
of South Carolina. Despite that, I wish them the best for the forthcoming
NCAA Tournament.

Yeah, I think there is a lot of frustration because the team has not performed up to expectations (which admittedly were high).
We'll see how the team does in the NCAA's. I'm hopeful, but not particularly optimistic.

UNLV, coached of course by Lindy LaRocque, is unbeaten in conference in the regular season, but still have their conference tournament to play, starting noon today. So that can give us someone to root for while we wait for Stanford to play again

Two previous opponents: Portland beats Gonzaga 64-60 for the WCC tournament final. I think that means the WCC gets two into the big dance, since Gonzaga is ranked.

Lindy's UNLV squeaks by SDSU in a very, very suspenseful finish 71-68, will go to the finals tomorrow on CBS, vs. the winner of Wyoming/Colorado State later tonight.

I watched some of the second half while doing other things. They were tied when I turned it on right after halftime, then UNLV went up by 8 or so for quite a while. Down the stretch when SDSU started fouling, UNLV missed a number of free throws to make it very close. I didn't see SDSU ever take the lead, but they go within 1.

SDSU made 4 three pointers, without missing, in the last 2:32. UNLV made enough free throws to stay ahead, but all those threes kept SDSU in it right to the end.

Help me understand how Villanova is ranked 10th in the country?
They have not beaten a single ranked team all year except Princeton which was ranked 24 preseason (21 when they played in game 2 in early November). Princeton dropped out after week 1 and is not ranked.
Villanova has lost to UConn 3 times and to all other ranked teams. None of the teams they've beaten are ranked.
Compare them to UCLA - beat Stanford, Arizona, and came close to beating South Carolina. Now ranked 17th.
Does not make sense to me. And Villanova's rankings is what gives UConn such a high score.

I think you've answered your own question.
Looking into Massey's numbers, Villanova had no bad losses, losing to UConn 3 times, Baylor at 28th, Creighton at 25th, and Iowa State at 21st. Its best wins were two wins against Creighton, and a win against South Florida at 34th. I think Massey probably has them about right around 20, but their NCAA resume is weaker than that. The NET and the polls seem to have wildly inflated their results. The NET must be giving them credit for the 3 single digit losses to UConn, given that NET takes into account scoring margin, offensive and defensive efficiency, etc.

UNLV plays for the Mountain West championship against Wyoming, and an automatic bid tonight at 7 Pacific, on the CBS sports channel. On Comcast/Xfinity here in the Bay Area that is channel 732.
Go Lindy! While I suspect that Kate Paye will be our next head coach when Tara retires, Lindy looks like she would be a good choice too.
I do have to say, however, that Lindy was lousy at the chalk talks! Kate used to be terrible too, but she has improved a lot over the years and the last few sessions have been somewhat insightful. Talking to fans turns out to be a learned skill for coaches.
I should also add that Tara shows no signs of slowing down, and I hope she keeps coaching for another half decade or so. But she is about to turn 70.

- surpass Chewy in the all time coaching wins
- have significant separation from Gene-O
- win 3-5 more championships
- have an award or 2 named after her, such as the P12 (or national) best coach award.

I'm in agreement all the way with you on this, including the comments re chalk talks. Lindy never did get it -- seemed to be bored and almost resent being there. As for Kate, yes, she too was not good in the past, but this year I've found her to be really good, with a sense of humor, willingness to respond to questions seriously and yes, offer worthwhile insight.
As for the game tonight, I'll be watching and cheering on UNLV -- for me, an astounding concept.
