Thanks for your suggestion.  In my myopic focus, I didn't consider that other sports might have their schedules published.  I feared that with the drastic changes in the Pac 12,  media coverage would follow.

WBB 2023-2024 Season - stopandpop - 08-25-2023

Contrary to an earlier post, Stanford will not be playing at Creighton this upcoming season.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - VisitingCock - 09-07-2023

Are you guys hearing anything regarding playing SCar this year? Our schools had previously negotiated for a game in Columbia this year and one in Palo Alto next year. I don't see the h&h series extending beyond next year (if that) because you'll have enough flights to Charlotte/Atlanta in the future.

Are you guys in scheduling turmoil this year? Is there a chance we won't meet this year. We seem to have set dates for everybody else of even -mid level importance.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Lorcan - 09-07-2023

I could be wrong, but I think Stanford has historically been tight lipped about their schedule until it's actually released outside of a few mentions of who might be on next year's slate at the season ending banquet.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - BobK - 09-07-2023

The great SID left I looked yesterday did t see a new hire. That may be slowing down the release. Took a long time to get the complete roster up ?

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - BosCard - 09-07-2023

I know this is the 2023-2024 season thread but I’m also thinking about what we need to see this year to prepare for a Brink-less 2024-2025 season in the new ACC.   We need Iriafen to become a double double machine.   Bosgana/Demetre or both have to become primary scorers either slashing or from the three point line.  Lepolo needs to become a more aggressive scorer.  And we probably need Ogden or one of her classmates to have a breakout freshman year.  Will have to be a team effort of everyone stepping up to replace Brink.  A top 10 2024 recruit or 2 or 3 would help too.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Lorcan - 09-07-2023

I'm sad to see Wilder go. He was a refreshing source of energy and provided me with what I felt was a fantastic insight to Stanford from afar.

Well, I think the names you just mentioned will most likely comprise the starting five
for Stanford for the 2024-2025 season:

F - OGDEN     6'1   (2023 #10)
F - DEMETRE  6'3   (2021 #11, #7 Prospect Nation)
F - IRIAFEN    6'3   (2021 #19)
G - BOSGANA  6'2
G - LEPOLO     5'7   (2022 #71)

Reserves:
F - AGARA       6'2     (2023 #37)
F - UME           6'3     (2024 #40, #20 Prospect Nation)
G - HARRIEL    5'10   (2021 #78)
G - PAPADAKI  5'11
G - CLARDY     5'9     (2023 #39)
G - IJIWOYE    5'6     (2024 #44, #40 Prospect Nation)
G - GREEN       5'8

You may be right re. the 2024-2025 starting line-up, but I sure hope our final signing class will compensate for Brink's departure.  Without quality size/length in the middle and a true offensive threat at wing or shooting guard, I see Stanford somewhere in the bottom tier of the ACC.

You may be right, but I do remember a Stanford team with probably just about
the same amount and level of talent (maybe even less, based on the HS rankings
of the players), but which made it all the way to the Final Four in 2017:

Starting Five:
F - McCALL                6'3    Sr    (2013 #11)
F - JOHNSON Kaylee   6'3    Jr    (2014 #30)
G - McPHEE               5'11   Jr    (2014 #25)
G - SAMUELSON K      5'11   Sr    (2013 #77)
G - ROBERSON           5'7    Sr

Reserves:
F - SMITH Alanna       6'3     So
F - FINGALL               6'3     Fr     (2016 #27)
G - CARRINGTON       6'0     Fr     (2016 #34)
G - SNIEZEK              5'7     So    (2015 #38)

As far as I can tell, that was the only Stanford team
that made it all the way to the Final Four
without a Top 5/Top 10 talent coming out of HS

You're absolutely right and I should know.  I was there in Dallas watching them and well before that, I watched them when they first played N.M. State and then Kansas State out in Manhattan, KS.  Thanks for the reminder.

Does anyone know if the PAC-12 tournament will be held at Michelob Ultra Arena still? I’m hoping to make plans soon, but don’t know if venue has changed.

thank you. technically correct, but perhaps underestimates 1st-round, wnba pick alanna smith. she came from australia, so she didn't have an accurate recruiting ranking, which isn't quite the same as not being top-10 talent. she was the 4th leading scorer and second leading rebounder on that team. also, i don't remember who started, but in the end-of-the-season, long run in the ncaa tournament, alanna was playing 30+ minutes per game to kaylee's under 10.  link

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - stopandpop - 09-12-2023

Stanford at San Diego State, December 1st.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 09-12-2023

In both 2022 and 2021, the final conference schedule was released on October 11.  I seem to remember this happening much earlier in prior years--as in mid summer.  But I guess there are a lot of last minute arrangements related to TV etc. that push this process out until just weeks before the season begins.  And no big deal for conference play since it is still months away.

In 2022 the non conference schedule was released on September 6, in 2021 it was released on September 1.  It does seem as if our non conference schedule is now late, although we are learning about many of the games via other school's schedules.  I wonder what the hold-up is?  Is Tara having problems getting teams to come out to Maples to play us?  We have heard that it has been getting harder and harder to do that.  Not all coaches see the merit of putting a loss to Stanford on their team early in the season.   Also, my guess is that we are no longer willing to schedule many out-of-conference home-and-aways given the excessive travel that is around the corner for us.

It will be interesting to see how it all sorts out.  And even more interesting to see who plays and who has most improved.  Here is my pie-in-the-sky wish list:

1) Jump shows much better facility making her own shot, moving left or right and shooting treys accurately after doing so.
2) Lepolo hits jumpers or treys or slashes to pick up free throws--and one way or the other starts scoring 10 points a game.
3) Brink returns with confidence in her jump shot and shows the ability to drag defenders to the perimeter--while preserving the improvements she made last year on fouling and scoring inside.
4) Iriafen shows all-around growth, particularly by becoming a better rebounder and defender and a steady presence inside.  Special emphasis on rebounding.  Did I say rebounding?  I'd like to see her be in position to put every Brink miss back in the basket, and we need her to replace a lot of Jones's defensive rebounding.
5) Demetre's defense markedly improves.  We want her offense on the court without having a defensive liability at the other end.
6) Bosgana takes advantage of greater trust and minutes to become a major inside/outside scoring threat, finishing at the basket and draining threes with equal facility.  She can be the next McPhee.
7) One of the freshman--most probably Ogden--adjusts to college quickly and is starting by conference play.

8) Tara and the coaches show creativity in offensive and/or defensive schemes, and adjust our system much better to our players than was true last year.  What the new schemes should be, I don't know, but I want to see Tara the master tactician again, with answers at the ready.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - BobK - 09-12-2023

The lack of schedule posted could be a simple as no SID yet. Many Pac 12 teams have posted their schedules.
The team is about to start practice so more to come I would imagine.

Please Tara don't have Brink roaming the perimeter, she is the best in the Country inside.

Bob, don't you think Brink will be even more effective when the other team cannot simply clog the paint and maul her?  That is the point of versatility.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - BobK - 09-12-2023

Brink shot about 85% FRs last year. She’s very strong in the paint
Plus I’m still shell shocked of that certain player not gone roaming and roaming

Her 3x3 play was a stark reminder to me that she needs to be inside more -- or at least inside the FT line with a green light to attack the basket off the dribble.
