The "DSAs" will not count toward the roster cap, but anyone not designated would count toward the roster cap. Feels like next year and going forward, there will no longer be new DSAs, so in ~4-5 years, all DSAs will have graduated, and all recruiting classes combined will have to meet the roster cap requirements.

But basically, if you largely designate incoming freshmen as the DSAs then your roster cap can remain high for up to 5 years forward (as long as you don't exceed the roster limit by about 25%). You may not want to due to roster balance (otherwise you have a cliff when your current freshmen graduate), but that is at least possible.

I think that's correct, but I think you can only designate DSAs after your roster quota is filled.

Observations:
- So far no Old Pac 12 team has lost to any team from anywhere else. Rather ironic that the "Pac 12" has this particularly strong showing after it no longer exists.
- I rather like the fact that the CWS has teams representing 7 different conferences. (Though OSU played as an independent this year - do they still represent the rump Pac 12?)
- It's true that the SEC is the top conference in baseball and ACC #2. But, it's a lot closer than most pundits like to believe. That plus the fact that a double elimination tournament isn't a particularly strong way to determine a "best" team in baseball leads to this kind of result.
- The SEC got 13 of its 16 teams into the tournament, fully half of the regional hosts, and 75% of the top 8 seeds. Rather poor performance versus that seeding. The SEC had the top 5 in the RPI, 9 of the top 13 - which is a comment on the utility of RPI. Still the 13 teams and the dominance of the RPI formula go a long way to explain how much the SEC has dominated recent champions (but not necessarily that they have the most recent champions).
- The pre-2025 Big Ten is not very good at baseball. Which is either surprising (given their resources and media attention) or not surprising (given the difficulties of fielding a good team when you basically cannot play at home for the first month or two of the season). The former Pac 12 teams were 4 of the top 5 in the conference standings. The only legacy Big Ten team in that group, Iowa, got there by having a soft schedule that only included two of the former Pac 12 teams (against which they went 1-5).
- Former Pac 12 teams in the Big 12 ended up tied for 4th/5th, and 14th (last), but Arizona is the only one still playing.
- While not the iffiest of those making it in, I am still not quite certain that either Miami or Louisville really deserved to make the tournament. But they both won their regionals and Louisville is now the only ACC team in the CWS.
- I'm cheering for OSU. They were never offensive as a Pac 12 rival and certainly not among those responsible for the death of the Pac 12.
LSU won the CWS, beating Coastal Carolina so the SEC wins again, but the Sun Belt was the runner up.

Why would you be the last? As far as I can tell it wasn't reported anywhere before yesterday.

Of the outgoing transfers that I know about, this is the first one that really hurts.
While he hasn't yet performed up to his potential, he has a lot of potential and finally seemed to be heading in the right direction. In 3 of his last 4 starts he gave up 1 earned run in 15 innings - but then had some trouble in the one game in the ACC Tournament (5 IP, 5 ER, 7 hits, 4 walks).

I have seen 7 names: Volchko, Scott, Uber, Saum, Becerra, Campbell, Blair.
That's 5 seniors, a junior (Scott), and a sophomore (Volchko).
As mentioned, the only particularly painful one is Volchko - the only one I didn't expect to be gone.
There could certainly be others I don't know about, but the window closes July 1.

That link now goes to a female fencer from 2008-09.

[They took him off their 2025 roster page. This is from 2024.]
Eric Jeon is from Fullerton, CA and has spent two years at Columbia. In 2024 he was the Columbia "rookie of the year" and made All Ivy second team. He hit 0.320 with 5 HRs in 42 games/40 starts (team played 44 games) playing third base.
In 2025 he played in the Lions first game then disappeared and was stricken from their roster for 2025, taken off their official stats (his first game stats are in the full list but under the name "2", which was his number).
There is an article in the NY Post that states he was lost to injury this year. No other mention of him.
How Columbia baseball saved its season to make NCAA tournament again
Stanford has yet to get much production out of a transfer.
Biggest recent contributions I can remember were in 2024 with 109 at bats from Brandon Larson (8th on team and 0.770 OPS) and 29 innings pitched from Kassius Thomas (9th on team and 9.1 ERA).

I don't think Stanford will be featured much in the draft this year. We could just maybe have a few late round guys. More likely we'd be hit by one of our recruits being drafted, though we have a pretty good record there.
Pretty sure that Scott is our highest rated, draftable player. I could imagine he might end up getting drafted and then not bothering to go to UGa but I know nothing at all about his thinking or how far he has fallen in scouts estimation. For all I know he could make more at UGa next year than in the minors.
I don't think anybody else draftable has a notable MLB profile. In the past, one would expect any juniors good enough to start would get drafted. With a shorter draft and expanded ranks of NCAA baseball that's not true anymore.
As I noted previously, our starting(ish) juniors include: Nati (probably best draft prospect in this group, but not that high), MacDonald (pretty good soph year, but injured most of this), Dugan (our best ERA pitcher but only became starter as injuries mounted), O'Haran (was supposed to be closer), Hott (played well as a spot starter but I don't think on any MLB radars). I could see 0-3 drafted depending on what MLB thinks of the raw talent of the pitchers but leaning to the low end of that range.

If Scott does go in the first three rounds (105 picks) there could be big incentive to sign.
The big challenge for Esquer will be to keep the 2026 class together.
Somehow the other day I got past the PG paywall (can't remember how). There's 8 commits in the top 104 players listed, including #5 overall., (Tyler Spangler, SS from Danville/De La Salle).

The only slight surprise is that Scott wasn't drafted at all, though that has no effect on the 2026 team.
Either Scott made it clear he wasn't going to sign in hopes of having a better year and improving his draft slot for next year or he has fallen further in scouts' evaluation than I had realized.
Since my focus was on what Stanford's roster would look like next year I didn't say much about Haskins. Haskins has played four years and thus nominally has no eligibility left, though possibly could have petitioned for a medical redshirt for his shortened sophomore year. (haven't kept track of the rules on that)
He was probably the second best hitter on the team last year (2nd in slg%, 2nd in HRs, 3rd in OPS, 5th in AVG). If I remember correctly he had some pretty good summer league performances which may have helped him get drafted.
I think that the window for entering the transfer portal has closed, so barring some incoming transfers we haven't heard about or signed yet, I think the 2025-26 roster is set.
Next year is going to be all about how the pitching develops. We're losing Scott, Volchko, Uber. That's a little over 1/3 of our total innings pitched. While that group had a collective ERA just under 6, that was better than the team average of 6.42. There are plenty of live arms and potential on the staff but they're going to have to figure out how to throw a strike that isn't just grooved down the middle.
The offense ought to be fine, which it usually has been under Esquer. We're losing three starting position player-seniors (Haskins 3rd Base, Becerra SS, Saum Catcher). That's not very high turnover for college baeball. Becerra developed into a pretty good contact hitter but didn't have much power (0.330 AVG, 1 HR, 0.427 SLG), Saum had a rough year at the plate (0.236 AVG, 4 HR, 0.368 SLG), Haskins I already wrote about.
I count 9 returning players who have started a reasonable number of games and there ought to be a few emerging from the frosh and soph class.
With good health the offense should be better but it needs to develop better power - or at least sustain the power hitting over the season.
We'd all love to see Sasaki have a breakout.
