I didn't think Mano was the right person; only based on what I saw at the matches. He stayed by himself during timeouts and didn't seem to be involved with the players. My preference would be a female who the players can relate to and someone who has the confidence to speak in front of the entire team. I'd also like to have someone with a track record of recruiting players starting at the 15/16 year old level.

Yes, I think all three of those players may help. I'd like to see Hambly focus on recruiting one of the top liberos in the country for 2023/2024.

When the coaches all participated in the "Volleyball 101" (in 2020?), I was underwhelmed by Mano. He seemed the least engaging of the group (which at that time included Alisha Glass Childress). That may not be a reflection on his coaching or recruiting ability. Perhaps that type of public speaking is not his forte.
I'm in agreement on with you regarding the ideal candidate. Hope we can get someone like that.

When he hired Mano, Hambly emphasized his recruiting background, which was needed due to Corlett's departure. I was surprised because Mano's experience was solely with San Jose State, which I assume has zero overlap with the student-athletes we recruit. How has our recruiting been under him--too early for us to tell? Did we need more from him in coaching?

Minnesota beat Stanford (on a neutral court) earlier in the season. There was some hope Stanford had improved enough to beat them.
But Minnesota played great (on their home court) and Stanford was flat. I wouldn't call the loss unexpected.

I was looking at a Penn State WVB message board. These players have entered the transfer portal: starting setter, backup setter, starting MB (and star player), starting OH, and backup OH. I was surprised how many posts were about Penn State becoming irrelevant in the sport like Stanford and Hawaii.
I don't think Stanford has become irrelevant but I do see next year with the level of talent as a turning point one way or the other. One good thing about Stanford WVB from a historical perspective is if a player transfers it won't be until after she has a Stanford degree.

Next year (2022) would be their 5th year, so they would be graduate transfers.

Two coaching rumors in the world of women's volleyball:
(1) Nebraska's Associate Head Coach Tyler Hildebrand (husband of Stanford's Kristin Richards) is reportedly taking the HC job at LBSU, his alma mater. He had been seen as John Cook's heir-apparent; but nothing is certain in this world. (And of course, this could help build his resume.)
(2) There is an unconfirmed report Russ Rose is retiring from Penn State. This would be a big surprise, though he is 70.

On a Penn State WVB message board they have been speculating about a HC change for five days and no closer to a definitive conclusion. They are getting really irritated the AD is letting the rumors go unchecked for so long if a decision has been made.

Wow, are we seeing the beginning of the end of Penn State being a powerhouse in WCVB? Like what had happened to the likes of 80s and 90s WCVB perennial behemoths Pacific, Hawaii and LBSU?

More likely, I would imagine that the better analogy might be Tennessee in WBB. They may be down for a few years, but I doubt they will be out for good.

It was reported on the Penn State WVB message board Salima Rockwell was seen on the PSU campus. Now there's rampant speculation she will be the next head coach. Penn State would have to pay a pretty penny to convince her to go through the rigors of recruiting, traveling, etc. as opposed to her current lifestyle.
Rockwell is one of the very few coaches who could instantly bring in big-time recruits.
AVCA final poll came out today. Stanford with a record of 19-11 fell three spots to #21 to finish the season. Hopefully next year things go better for the Cardinal.
There were 7 B1G teams in the top 17 of the AVCA poll (4 teams in the top 7). It's clear to me the B1G has surpassed the PAC-12 in this sport.

Rose retiring was announced this morning.
Many Penn State fans are hoping that Salima Rockwell will take over. Those who claim to be in the know believe she left coaching behind for good.
ETA: One correction: Russ Rose is 68.

Penn State appointed an interim head coach which makes me think they will be interviewing candidates for a period of time. It also leads me to suspect the new coach will not be Salima because they would either reach a quick agreement or she decided to pass on any offer presented to her.
My guess Penn State will go through a few tough years before getting back to being a top team.
BTW, Rose is 68 years old which IMO is not all that old.
