RE: OT: 2022 Niners thread - Giants - 11-01-2022

Quite frankly, anytime someone posts something from a “friend”, the information contained therein is no more valuable than used Kleenex. In this particular instance, the information is even more laughable than the usual “friend” commentary.

To even suggest the 49ers were not diligently practicing at any point within the season is ludicrous.

Feel free to post your “friend’s” credentials.  Otherwise, save the “inside info.” for the Enquirer where we can read it alongside the weekly UFO column.

Hey Giants! I saw one hovering over Park Presidio Blvd at dawn about 40 years ago. About 200 other people reported to the Chron that they saw it too.

And it may be that the famous Trojan Al from Bootleg days was kidnapped by aliens. Poof! One day he was gone, never to be heard from again.

Thanks Amy.

Oh my gawd... I don't know how literal to take "they didn't practice," but I am curios what bothers someone so much about something so innocuous that it causes them to throw a theatrical fit of rage.

It is common for teams to not practice full tilt when they are battered and bruised. It would be reckless to do otherwise. Moreover, the Niners looked like a team that had practiced well against the Rams when they looked like they had never practiced against the Chiefs.

The anecdotal evidence suggests my friend was correct in spirit if not specifically.

Fun fact. I went to High School with a current Niners beat writer. One of my friends from the 'hood stays in touch with him. I'm pointing this out for two reasons. One, you have no idea who is friends with who and might know more than you think they do. Two, if my friend shares information he receives from the Niners reporter, I might share it here, but I will not ask him to ask the reporter for any information just to satisfy my curiosities. If we ever meet in a social setting however, I would probably pepper the Niners reporter from my alma mater with questions!

Tough business.  Hope Wilson does well in Miami.  By all accounts a good guy. And a solid RB.  But with Mitchell coming back, not going to get much work.  A fifth round pick for a third string back is a no-brainer.

He raved about Wilson so Miami would cough up a 5th rounder and not a 7th rounder ... ;)

Sorry BC, I had to change it...

Garoppolo had a 132.5 rating on Sunday. His best of the season, might have been the best of his career. And he's currently ranked 7th in the league in rating among QBs (not QBR). His INT rate is the lowest of his career (not for lack of trying...) and his average yards per attempt is close to the best of his career. BTW, can't remember where I read it, but someone opined that this QB was terrible at 4th quarter comebacks. His super bowl year, he led the league in 4th quarter comebacks with 4. And he had three last year. In fact, 10 of his 36 49er wins were 4th quarter comebacks.

It's a miracle it was 28-23 in the 4th they were so bad.

Can someone translate this for me?

We may need a semantics guy to decipher the last five or six posts but Dr. Hayakawa is long dead and I have never heard of another.

Perhaps one of the 40 Year geniuses can help.

I have to assume your day job is that of a criminal defense attorney because of your effort to put your client in the position of victim.  Unfortunately for you, in this case, the jury is cognizant of your strategy and remains focused on the factual evidence.

In other words, since you initiated the argument, it is incumbent upon you to make a persuasive argument to its veracity. Following that, we will determine whether it merits our attention. To date, you have failed to convince us of anything other than you are in possession of hearsay evidence.

Language in Thought and Action - the primary text in my English 1A class in 1967.  It was my introduction to Hayakawa and power of language - one of the most influential books I read during my college days.

RIP Ray Guy. 72.  First pure punter in HOF.  Best ever in my book.  That Raider era was tremendous.  I was a fan back then. Continued to be when they moved to LA as long as Plunkett played. Once he retired – that was it. I’ll never root for any team south of San Luis Obispo. What Davis did to Oakland borders on the criminal. Of course, the Bd of Supes  was dumb enough to let him.

“I thought then he could be the greatest in the league, but I changed my mind," Raiders coach John Madden said, via Southern Miss' announcement of Guy's death. "I think Ray proved he's the best of all time.”

Perhaps the editor was sleeping….

At the halfway point, Garoppolo has quietly assembled an excellent season. He has the 7th best rating in the NFL, and the collective pass defenses he'll be facing in the remaining nine regular season games are the worst in the NFL. Garoppolo has the longest streak in the NFL of games having thrown multiple TD passes (4), tied with Mahomes.

Remaining strength of schedule - Fantasy Index

McCaffrey as force multiplier joining Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Elijah Mitchell, Jauan Jennings, Kyle Jusczyk -- and one of the best defenses in the league -- will be a orce in the second half.
