No excuse for the USC fans. But honestly, I'd be pretty pissed if I almost landed a major recruit and had it go to a major rival.

Stanford is the only school in the country that fans of teams who lose recruits to, don't usually mind, other than University of Scandal & Corruption and Notre Dame fans. They understand Stanford is a different animal and may in fact offer something different for recruits. I mean the difference between Georgia and Florida isn't much. Between Stanford and those two, quite a bit.

It does not happen often, but a recruit who chooses Air Force, Army or Navy over a Power 5 school would probably receive positive comments and support as well.

Nobody believes his choice is final, so angry USC fans are not helping their cause.

He has never visited USC. Stanford was the only one from his final 3 that he visited. He has said he still wants to visit USC sometime before he signs so I wouldn't say this one is over till he has signed that NLI. Big get for Shaw and co. but now the battle is to keep him and get him to sign.

If USC flips another Stanford defensive commit, that will be an ominous sign for the future of Stanford football. Getting recruits admitted and committed used to be a near-guarantee that they would play for the good guys. We can't compete with the big boys if we lose three or four of said admits/commits every year.

Chief Borders looked like a potential flip after he was admitted to his "dream school" Stanford but he reaffirmed with Florida on Thursday.

Uke is a late-bloomer OL from Parish Episcopal in Dallas. Was recently rated a 4* by 247 and reports a 3.77 GPA. His recruitment has absolutely blown up in the past month, raking in late offers from FSU, USC, Penn State, GT, Mizzou, Vandy, and now Stanford.

Former '21 Stanford safety commit Josh Moore (who flipped to USC to play WR) has now de-committed from USC after being recruited over at the WR spot. USC flipped a WR from Oregon yesterday. 247sports's RJ Abeytia has said that Stanford is still in contact with Moore. Maybe we'll get him back.

Maybe Stanford's coaches had a better ability to project Moore as a Safety than USC coaches had projecting him as a WR.
I must say, this is surprising to me. As much as I hate USC, Helton seems like a very nice guy with integrity. Why would you put effort into flipping someone, knowing he could be missing a great opportunity for himself if he lost his spot after coming to you, and then go and drop him like a hot rock after something perceived to be better came along? Seems like a very low integrity move that will have repercussions down the road.

Mike Eubanks agrees with you. FWIW, Helton surrounded himself with vicious recruiters as assistants who couldn't give a rat's a** about integrity. (Unfortunately, the CFB recruiting landscape is intensely cutthroat, and "integrity" may not get you places.)

Do we know for sure that U$C pulled his scholarship offer and/or had promised they wouldn't recruit any more WR's when they got his commitment? Or are we just assuming that since he decommitted?
