I don't think it always easy to ID who is on WVB scholarship. I recall an article Klineman said she didn't know Gabby Ailes was not on scholarship her first year. She thought Ailes preferred to always eat at her dorm cafeteria. I believe Ailes was given an athletic scholarship by Dunning her junior year.

With all WBB players on scholarship, that makes it easy for fans to calculate exactly how many scholarships are available in future years.

More recently, Anna Wilson came back for a fifth year because other recruiting targets went elsewhere. In the end, we had a second spot for Carrington, but she was already in the process of transferring to Baylor.

To me, this is not surprising, coming off the heels of an all-PAC 12 national championship game where 14-time Final 4 and 3-time national champion Stanford edged out first-time Final 4 participant Arizona, 54-53. And the year before, IONESCU-led Oregon would have won the national champion had the NCAA tournament not been cancelled.

I think what is impressive is how many of these players could potentially be all-American level players. Based sort of on the rankings, I would put Gray, Vanslooten, Gardiner, Beers, Jaquez, Jones, Betts, Nnaji, and Gayles all on that list.

Exactly!

And what I'm most excited about is the increased high level of competition within the PAC 12 with all these Top 10 / Top 25 / Top 50 recruits flooding the PAC 12 teams at the same time, which will hopefully translate to more PAC 12 teams in the Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final 4 simultaneously.

Stanford will continue to be a perennial Final 4 shoe-in through the BETTS years (especially if Kiki RICE joins her), but I also see Oregon, Arizona, and UCLA doing the same thing eventually if their topnotch recruiting continues.

In particular, I feel that UCLA is slowly building something special, because:

- I like their current triple sophomore post ensemble of 6'4 BESSOIR (2019 French U19 National Team), 6'4 DUGALIC (2021 Croatian Senior National Team to the Tokyo Olympics) and 6'4 ANSTLEY (2019 Australian U19 National Team);

- then there's the Class of 2022 #19 overall 6'0 PF JAQUEZ, #21 overall 5'8 SG CLARK, and #22 overall 5'5 PG Londynn JONES;

- and then there's the Class of 2023 #21 overall 5'6 PG Jada WILLIAMS;

I feel that JONES and WILLIAMS are both underranked by ESPN Hoopgurlz. JONES was a highly effective backup PG for the 2019 USA U16 national team, while WILLIAMS was the very efficient starting PG for the 2021 USA U16 national team.

Based on the above (and considering that Stanford is one of Final 4 in the recruitment of Class of 2022 #2 overall 5'11 PG Kiki RICE, and one of Final 3 in the recruitment for Class of 2022 #20 overall 5'9 SG/PG Indya NAVAR), Stanford needs additional help at all positions from the Class of 2023. And this is to be expected, with the impending departure of JONES (SF/SG), PRECHTEL ©, BELIBI (PF) and JUMP (SG).

So far, I know of strong interest from Class of 2023 #5 overall 5'9 SG Ashlynn SHADE based on her recent unofficial visit, and Stanford is in the Final 8 of #17 overall 6'1 SF Sammie WAGNER. We know that the top two post prospects from the Class of 2023 (#3 overall 6'3 TOOMEY and #4 overall 6'4 Breya CUNNINGHAM) DO NOT have Stanford as an option, so the next highly ranked post prospect for Stanford would PROBABLY be #20 overall 6'6 Maggie MENDELSON (who is also a Top 3 overall and the #1 overall MB volleyball prospect from that class). #1/#2 overall 6'0 SF Judea WATKINS was mentioned in this board before, but I have yet to read about any confirmation of her interest in Stanford.

It would seem Dawn Staley and South Carolina would have the hometown advantage as Edwards is from the state and if we were able to recruit her to the West Coast, that would be a brobdingnagian steal from their backyard.

Anna Wilson was given an equally early offer and gave Stanford a verbal commit - even before she'd been admitted, I believe. As I recall, the WBB program then mentored her re her HS academic program so that she'd have the classes she needed to get in. I may not have this quite right, but I'm pretty darn sure that she was a soph when she gave Stanford a verbal -- at the time, a member of Hoopgurlz top 25 watchlist
