61% shooting, 10/18 from 3 (not a typo); outrebounded Arizona 34 to 26. Playing like that, we could beat anybody.

Rather than helping Hasse keep his job, I think this win shows how badly Hasse squandered the talent he has on this team.

I was at the game and, not surprisingly, that was the most rocking I've seen Maples in years. The admittedly million Arizona fans filled out the place and that helped, but the team's play got the crowd going in a way that I haven't seen in a long while and has been much missed.
Really, really happy for the players to get a W like this.
As for Haase, he was doing some of his usual inane stuff: practically chest-bumping some of the players and waving his arms to the crowd for noise. I don't hate Haase (I've said before that he seems like a great guy and is certainly a great representative of Stanford), but he's almost a goofy self-parody at this point. We won tonight because we shot the lights out. It happens in basketball. Sometimes the basketball gods are just smiling.
But I agree with your assessment. There's real talent on this team. NCAA tourney-bid talent in my opinion. Haase has squandered pretty good talent for, what, 7 seasons now? This was even the first night that I thought: hmm, Spencer Jones could maybe have an outside shot at playing at the next level as a 3-and-D guy. He's big, moves relatively well, and can of course shoot. If Haase knew how to run an offense then Spencer's 3-pt %, which is a pretty good 38%, would be ten points higher because nearly every shot is contested (Haase only recently seems to have figured out that there's this thing called "screening to get an open 3-pt shot for the guy curling around the screen", though there still was very little of it tonight).
In short, I'm pumped for the win. It will be the Stanford sports highlight of my year! But Haase still needs to be gone yesterday.

It was GREAT to be at Maples tonight! Spencer and Ingram really brought the physical game. They were a force! Even Angel was banging inside. Michael O had his best game ever and really fought hard and shot well from the line. Great to see his leadership. Didn't like Michael Jones making a silly hip check foul on a 3 pointer to let UofA pull to within 6. Not smart at all. He's not played well the last two games on the O side. Raynoud needs to learn how to hustle on D, especially after he turns it over.
Would love to see this team finish strong and make a run to the championship game of the p12. Why not?!

So cool. Reminded me of the matchups with 'Zona in the early 90s, Adam Keefe matching up against Sean Rooks, or even the Todd Lichti upset. Lute against Monty. Good times!
Speaking of which, this game reminded me that Monty was so good at getting our shooters good looks. It would make Kenny Amman and Dion Cross look like All-Americans because he would have triple screens getting them clear shots running across the baseline. It was beautiful to watch from a basketball Xs and Os standpoint.

We taped Stanford and watched the Warriors. Unusual bad choice. As someone mentioned, our shooting % was gargantuan. Can't do that every game. And we got lucky with Ariz best player sitting 3/4 of game with foul trouble. But we took advantage of his absence and commanded the paint. A few of our threes were off uncontested inside out passes and we did it all with a minimum of screens SOMEHOW. Speaking of screens, I watched quite a bit of the Auburn-Alabama game this morning. Bruce Pearl's Auburn team runs screen after screen after screen. Does anyone know why we don't? I don't get it. Great win for the guys though and, like others, we were happy to see them overjoyed.

The talent has been there. For a few years. While I'm always happy to see a win over AZ, it also saddens me the extent to which that immense talent has been squandered by poor coaching. I can only hope the players stay and that the next coach will be better

For those at the game, who really believed we would win the game when it was close with about 7 minutes to play?
When watching the recording I still doubted we would pull it out, even though I already knew we had won. I mean after Cougin' it against ASU . . .

Watched on replay.
The difference in the game IMO was when when Spencer took over offensively and defensively for with about 10 minutes to go.
A few good individual plays kept us ahead and the unlikely 3 pointer from O Connell got us up by 10 with 3 minutes to go.
Those last 3 minutes were not good: turnovers, missed free throws, defensive rebounding fouls that stop the clock, offensive fouls and fouling a three point shooter. A more composed Arizona would have made it a nail biter or worse. They had three completely open three pointers to get the game within 3 with about 90 seconds and missed them all.
Credit to us for fighting throughout and putting us in a position to win, but should play smarter at the end.
Great win that takes us to LA with confidence.
We have the talent to win if we play well.

One crucial play was with about 1 minute left, ahead by two scores, we missed the back end of the free throws, but Ingram knocks the offensive board back to us and we get fouled for a chance at two more, which we convert, which pretty much sealed it.
Or, from the Arizona perspective, failure to box out doomed them.

Yes, I think we had 2 or 3 successful tries and maybe 3 failures where the pass was errant, or Reynaud couldn't corral the ball. Good for them. At least they are working on it.
