Some old Giants trivia out of the dim recesses of my mind from years of listening to Russ and Lon. Should be easy for you old pros.
1. Davenport was the first SF Giant to have an AB. Who was the second?
2. What was Jack Sanford’s nickname?
3. What MLB stadium saw Mays hit 4 HRs in one game?
4. What did Will Clark do his first AB? Who was the pitcher? Bonus: what was the count?
5. On the last day of the season in 1958, what was unique about the Giants’ batting order, and why?

#1 is correct.
#2 is pretty darned close. Jarron Collins is at #13 with 8,542 minutes played. The twelfth member is Paul Neumann, graduated 1959, 4th round pick (29th overall) and he had a nice six year career. Played for two years at Syracuse, two years with the 76ers, two years for the Warriors. He was typically the #4 scorer.
The undrafted free agents were Howard Wright, Chasson Randle and Howie Dallmar.
Lowest selection to enter the NBA was Bob Bedell, 10th round, #90 overall in 1968. Played for four years. Mike Bratz, second lowest pick at #66 overall in the third round had a nine year career, playing 10,613 minutes.

No on 1 and 2 so far.
Mick is right on #3, County Stadium
Mick is basically correct on #4 and #5 although Clark himself says it was on a 1-1 count. (I recall it as 0-1 but hey, I wasn’t in the batter’s box)
The reason Mays hit leadoff that day: he and Richie Ashburn were in a tight battle for the batting title. Word came that Ashburn had gone 3 for 4 in his game to finish at .350. Someone calculated that Willie would have to go 5 for 5 to win the crown. So Rigney put him at leadoff to give him a chance at 5 ABs. Mays got hits his first two times up, but “only” finished 2 for 5, .347

Ok since you mention Mays maybe he hit 2nd. But I’m guessing. I could tell you positions on opening day LF always throws me. So I’ll change to Jim King

Clark hit second that day I believe. HR was his first major league swing. HR to straight away CF. Which was darn hard to do in the Astrodome. IIRC Nolan struck him out second time up.

Correct. When he got back on the bench, Clark says to Chili Davis "He's going to knock me down next time I go up there, isn't he?" Davis says "Yup." And he did. Clark struck out looking. Good game though, Giants and Krukow got the win on Opening Day, 8-3. They had a really fun team that year, Al Rosen's first team; Clark, Robby, Chili, Hac-Man, Gladden, Chris Brown, Uribe and Brenly behind the plate. Aldrete, Candy Maldonado, Harry Spilman off the bench. Kruk won 20. Garrelts went 13-9. 4th best fielding team, stole the 5th most bases, had the third fewest HRs.

BobK is right. Jim King followed Davvy in the lineup that Opening Day. One of the best wins over LAD ever. 9-0 behind Ruben Gonzalez.

I thought an NFL question would be appropriate, now that we're on the cusp of the season. Here it is:
26 Stanford alums played in the NFL for all or parts of 10 seasons or more. Name them.
For the real Stanford football fans, here are some secondary questions:
1) 6 played 15 years or more in the NFL.
2) 6 of the 26 were first team all pros at least once.
3) 14 of 26 made the Pro Bowl.
4) Two were UDFAs.
5) Only one was not a primary starter during his career. He only started four games in an eleven year career...three of them in his last season.
Hint: Here's the decades in which they were drafted:
2 in the 2010s
1 in the 2000s
8 in the 1990s
3 in the 1980s
5 in the 1970s
2 in the 1960s
2 in the 1950s
1 in the 1940s

Steve Dils had a 10 year career in the NFL.
Barnes played 11 seasons in the NFL, and was one of two Stanford players who had 10+ year careers and were UDFAs. The other was Michael Thomas.

Brodie had the longest career at 17 seasons. Lofton and Elway were 16 seasons, Plunkett and John Lynch were 15 seasons, Ed McCaffrey played 13 seasons. Nelson, Sherman & Siemon played 11 seasons. Tony Hill, Gene Washington and Zack Ertz played 10 seasons.
Frankie Albert played seven seasons.
Sherman, Lynch, Banducci, Brodie, Washington and Lofton all made First Team all-pro at least once. Richard Sherman made it three times, most of all of them.
The others included Chris Draft and Jason Fisk (12 years each), Brad Badger, Lester Archambeau, George Buehler, Toi Cook, Alex Smith and Chris Walsh at 11 years each.
Chris Walsh was the answer to the mystery question "who generally did not start?" He only started four times in eleven seasons, though he played in 139 games. Three of his starts came as a 34 year old. He had his second best season in total yardage, yards per reception, total targets, total catches, and percentage of passes thrown to him that he caught...all in his last year.

Indeed it is. Mr. King did not play in 1984, so his career was 1978 - 1983, and 1985 to 1987. He broke his left elbow and missed the last two games of the 1983 season, and all of 1984. He'd started 47 consecutive games before that.
Incidentally, Stanford had quite a few great NFL players with nine year careers. Aside from King and Gordon, they had Pat Donovan, David DeCastro, Joe Cain, Chris Dressel, Cameron Fleming, Glyn Milburn, Blaine Nye, Gary Pettigrew, Turk Schonert, John Wilbur, Coy Wire, Kailee Wong and Dave Wyman.
