I admit that I intentionally omitted that fact.
Pablo Sandoval might have been a better comparison. But Pablo "only" hit 153 home runs in his career.

Baseball America has ranked the now Frosh class and has Stanford at 15. Much higher than previous rankings. Also Keyelsen could be a pitcher / position player

On Sunday Stanford baseball played an exhibition game against San Jose State.
I haven't seen any reports at all - would love to hear one if anyone here watched.
There are a few photos on the team instagram page.

The most interesting one to me was the fourth, which shows #44 Quinten Marsh pitching. A lefty.
(That's the frosh brother of last year's breakout frosh Tatum Marsh)
Not sure if that means anything about the depth chart.
The other pitcher shown is Cohen Gomez (photo 2), a sophomore who made 7 appearances last year.

I saw that Perfect Game updated the incoming class rankings and has this year's frosh class at #20 overall and #18 in average rating per player.
That's also higher than previously.
However, there is no date on the ranking so I don't know when it was done. I would presume after players signed from the draft or not but it's not clear.
(The number 20 ranking is one behind LaSalle, which lists 36 signees. Stanford has 11. Stanford has 40 on its roster in total.)
For next year's class, Perfect Game has Stanford's class fallen to #8 overall (was #3), but is #1 in average player rating.
That 2026 class currently has 5 in the top 100. An earlier version had 7 or 8.
The rankings are: 6, 26, 70, 72, 85, 129, 140, 274, 322, 500 (500 basically means unranked).
Remember that a decent fraction of the top 100 players sign from the draft and never end up in college.
For comparison, for last year's frosh class, they had Stanford's top recruits as Charlie Bates at #24 and Tatum Marsh at #228.
[The Perfect Game website is weird. One can always see rankings from past classes but most of the time the rankings of future classes is behind the paywall - but not always ... and not today.]

As you may have heard, the SoftBank Hawks (owned by Masayoshi Son, the Bill Gates of Japan?) selected Rintaro Sasaki with their #1 pick in the NPB draft last month. Yesterday, their Chief Baseball Officer (and former Daiei Hawk, Seattle Mariner, and Hanshin Tiger) Kenji Jojima
visited him for a courtesy call.
No negotiations can take place until the Stanford season is completed, and likely, nothing will happen until the MLB draft in July. JFYI.

Never mind, now available on KZSU. I guess it started late.
