Last year he threw 332 pitches. 320 were fastballs.  Almost all 4 seam.

With a 0.836 WHIP, 33 strikeouts and just three walks, a 2.66 ERA and a 3-1 record.  I'm sold.

A little Trivia - BobK - 02-17-2021

1. Who was the first NCAA men’s Volleyball champ?

2. Who was the only pinch hitter for Ted Williams?

3. What dubious record does Bill Sharman have in MLB?

4. What did Al Zarilla do in one inning that won’t be beat?

5. What batter holds the career record for most strikeouts?

6. In 1968 Denny McLain won 30+ games. Who was the last to win 30 before that?

7. This great played in the 1919 Rose Bowl and in the same year played with the NY Yankees ?

RE: A little Trivia - BostonCard - 02-17-2021

UCLA won the first three and six of the first seven men'st championships.  They haven't won since 2006, though, but at least they still have a team.

Giants won 29 games last year.  They should comfortably exceed that wins figure in 2021.

RE: MLB thread - BostonCard - 02-18-2021

I never figured on my Pads being big spenders.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30920254/san-diego-padres-fernando-tatis-jr-agree-14-year-340-million-deal

14 years is a long time.  If Tatis continues to play as he has, it would be a good deal for the Padres, but the chances of injuries or loss of production is high, and this could also turn into an albatross around San Diego.  I think when you are a small market team and have a chance to lock in a talent like that for most of his productive baseball career, you have to go for it, even if it is a gamble.

As a Padres fan, I really hope it works out.

The kid has a swagger. As long as he doesn’t overdo it and piss off the NL pitchers en masse he should have a HOF career.

RE: A little Trivia - Phogge - 02-18-2021

I know the Niner but Bobbbk says “don’t” so I won’t.

What Giants pitcher finished second in the Voldemort?

3. What dubious record does Bill Sharman have in MLB?  Struck out every single at bat.
4.  What did Al Zarilla do in one inning that won’t be beat?  Balked three times from first to second, second to third, third to home.
5.  What batter holds the career record for most strikeouts?  Reggie Jackson
6.  In 1968 Denny McLain won 30+  games. Who was the last to win 30 before that?  Last NL, Dizzy Dean.  Last AL, Walter Johnson.
7.  This great played in the 1919 Rose Bowl and in the same year played with the NY Yankees ?  George Halas.

RE: A little Trivia - Phogge - 02-18-2021

Zarilla played in the same outfield with Dom D and Ted Williams. It will be impossible for a human to do that again unless Williams is resurrected from cryogenic status.
I will take a flying guess that Zarilla has something to do with Gus Zernial. Perhaps they were the only “Z” teammates ever? Also you won’t find this knowledge on the back of his last Topps card (1953) but Zarilla bega shaving at the age of two. There was a humorist back in the 70’s from Chicago who was a diehard White Sox fan and often targeted Zarilla and his gorilla-like body.

RE: A little Trivia - BobK - 02-18-2021

5. Yes still Reggie Jackson
7. Yes George Halas. Mick was that without a peek ?

2 and 3 not yet answered correctly

Zarilla hit two triples on the same inning. But I like the balk answer

RE: A little Trivia - Phogge - 02-18-2021

Bingo! Looked up Zarilla after Bobbbbb’s answer. And Bobbbb it is possible to hit three triples in the same inning. Anyway Zarilla and Zernial are the only Z’s to ever play in the same outfield.

Looked up Sharman. LOL!

RE: A little Trivia - BostonCard - 02-18-2021

Sharman is the only baseball player to have been ejected from a baseball game without ever having appeared in one.

Local Trivia: Which Former USF Don Basketball player also played for SF 49ers?

RE: A little Trivia - BobK - 02-18-2021

Yes on Sharman. Abd yes Carroll Hardy was the Red Sox who pinch hit for Teddy Ballgame

A USF basketball player? Hmm. A number played basketball but thinking
