Thirteen years. Used to be something we planned around in our family (though, of course, there were years when the June calendar opened up because things did not work out for Stanford baseball).
My son and I spent a good part of his youth inside the 'blatt. I have never been to the new downtown field.
Let's not take this for granted. It's great to be back (though it will have to be without our family, because we no longer hold the latter part of June open on our calendars "just in case").
Between the women winning Tara a third natty and going back to Omaha, it's been a mighty good year after all, despite COVID.
Thanks, guys, for getting us back. And congratulations!

With the state of college baseball now and the Pac going from 6 to 12 teams. It is harder to get to Omaha, but you have to think that now recruiting is going to be in Stanford's favor with those baseball players who may be on the fence. Oregon's HC seem to have a chip but he is home watching. OSU is not the same. This team maybe young, but they did not seem at all phased by TT!!!! That is only going to be a plus as they are young but have this experience!

Sorry Ballbuster I’ve never been a cal insider. I do sometimes post on the open WBB board there.
But being a manly man I will say the Esquer hire disappointed me. I sure was wrong three. Still another great hire by Muir.
I have been a baseball season ticket holder for 50 years. See you next season

What an impressive win. I felt the Stanford players handled the lead and win graciously.
I have empathy for the TTU team and fans. They had high expectations just like Stanford fans and the wheels fell off the wagon. It happens. I'm looking forward.

Right there with you, Bob. I was furious that Muir didn’t hire Ryan Garko lol.
Can’t say enough about this team. I’ve lived and died with every pitch for just about every Stanford baseball team for over the last decade. Had hotel and flight reservations to Omaha that were canceled, and CWS tickets to resell too many times to count. Whether it was COVID, too many prior heart breaks, or just a lack of belief in this team, I barely paid any attention until the last couple months. I still think there’s probably been 5 Stanford teams that on paper were more talented than this one since we last reached Omaha (especially with our lack of pitching depth) but that’s why they play the games. Kudos to Esquer and the team!
Of course, this is the one year I won’t be able to make it to Omaha but I’ll be rooting from my couch. Hope some others are able to make it out there.

Actually, I think if Martinez were available, he'd probably be playing in the place of Eddie Park. In that scenario, Troy would be playing at second, Tawa would be playing in center field, and Brock Jones would be playing left field. I think it's safe to say that Martinez gives our offense more pop than Park does.
All that said, it sure would be great to know what happened to Martinez. I assume he's done for the season but I also am curious if/how it might effect the odds of him returning next year. Perhaps it helps because he sure seemed on track to leave before he left the lineup, given how well he was playing.

Around the horn on a few topics that surfaced here ...
- During the game it didn't really dawn on me how well Williams was pitching, I think because we were getting plenty of offense so it wasn't like the 1-0 complete game shut out that Beck threw a few weeks ago.
A complete game, 2 hit, 1 walk, 1 HBP shutout in a super regional is all-time level great performance. And one of the two hits was a miss that somehow ended up a perfect bunt on a big swing and the walk was, at the least, a close call.
- That was the easiest trot through this level of playoff we're ever going to see. But remember this team lost games during the season by scores of 0-13 (Santa Clara), 2-20 (Arizona), 1-9 (OSU). Sometimes things steamroll in baseball, even for good teams. Perhaps this give some karmic balance for 2012 super regional where Stanford got spanked by FSU in Tallahasee 1-17, 7-18. Apparently Stanford baseball players prefer a dry heat.
- There was considerable angst on this board when Esquer was hired. While I was a backer of Esquer, partly because he was an old friend and dorm mate, I was also interested in the rumor they had a chance at Bakich from Michigan - though Bakich didn't have west coast ties since high school as far as I know. Never thought Garko had the right experience. While Esquer has been great, the theme of "getting the team to this level so quickly" seems a little off to me. Marquess' final team was a national 8 seed. There was lots to work with right away, though a bit of a recruiting hole looming also. Certainly this particular team has gone further than I expected.
- On the fans, most every fan base derides the opposition before the game - lauds it afterwards, particularly if they win. So I am not particularly surprised or worked up over any Tech fans blathering about Pac 12 or west coast kids being soft or other insults. I am somewhat more concerned about the insinuation that that the Tech fans were yelling racial slurs at Park - hits a little close to home. However, I also don't like the insinuation itself. Either one knows they were doing so and should state it (so we can be suitably outraged) or one doesn't know and should leave it be.
- While Stanford seems to hit a ton of home runs, 8 teams in the final 16 have hit more (including Texas Tech), though only 4 have more per game. I can't find overall NCAA home runs per game for this year, but it seems back up towards 2010 levels which led to the introduction of BBCOR bats in 2011. Will there be another rules adjustment?

I saw somewhere, and not can't find it, that Stanford has had I think 5 or 6 complete games in ~155 games in NCAA baseball postseason games, and Williams now has two of them...
