Finally got a chance to watch UCLA today against Sdstate. I think they are improved from last year. Overall, Jaquez was the most impressive freshman on the floor. Kiki Rice did not have her best game. She mostly played on the wing (no point guard that I recall), was 0-5 on her perimeter shooting but did make a couple layups. She did not stand out in any way.
I think they deserve to be nationally ranked and I expect UCLA to finish in the upper half in the Pac12. They get Tennessee tomorrow and possibly Gonzaga or Louisville after that so will have a good gauge where they are after Monday.

Texas continues to have problems, lost to unranked Marquette 68-61 today. And Gonzaga may be a worthy opponent when we face them on Dec 4. Right now, are leading #6 ranked Louisville 29-28 at halftime.

Zags up by 8 in OT. Unfortunately the game is on FloHoops.
Edit to add: Gonzaga dominated the OT period 18-6 and won going away. Wow!

Gonzaga knocks off Louisville. So the losers bracket in the Bahamas: Texas, Lousville, and South Dakota State. Yikes, what a tourney field.
Jeff Walz is just so hard to tolerate. In an empty ballroom, you could constantly hear and see him screaming at his team and the officials. He got a technical and VanLith did too. The team just plays so undisciplined and Van Lith can do whatever she wants and never come out. Not my favorite program so nice job Gonzaga taking it to them!

Easy to improve over last year when the team has eleven healthy players (with a twelfth, Anstey, returning by January) versus the six or seven they had over extended periods last season. I think the Bruins did not receive preseason top 25 ranking because so much of the scoring production, other than Osborne, graduated. Better to fly under the radar while the freshmen adjust to collegiate level competition. Rice had an off game but she has shown great potential in the Bruins’ first three games, albeit against lesser opponents. Jaquez has been steady. Iwuala, Sontag and Jones all look comfortable on the floor and have contributed. Osborne has started quite strong, averaging 22.3 ppg and 9 reb pg.
Tennessee will present a great challenge with its size and depth. Disappointed that both Texas and Louisville fell into the losers bracket and the Bruins won’t play them.

UCLA up 17 — 57-40 vs. #11 Tennessee with 5:00 left in the 3rd quarter. Osborne with 18, Kiki Rice with 10. Good look for the Bruins, let's hope they can hold on.

Chris Dailey (UConn’s longtime assistant) fainted at the game today and was stretchered off while waving to fans. Hope she’s okay.

The Athletic had a Q & A article where one of the questions asked about Brink leaving early for the WNBA. The answer was that she may be the 3rd pick of so.
My question... how often do WBB players declare early? (Can't imagine she'd go anyway)

Well I read this a month or two ago but Brink turns 21 December 31. So I don’t really know :)

Hmmm it’s an interesting question. If she is on track to graduate early she may seriously consider going pro. Her ceiling and upside is so high. I would pick her ahead of Haley Jones if I was a GM. I really hope she comes back for another season at Stanford.

I, too, hope she returns. But one factor pushing her to declare for the draft is escaping the plethora of ticky-tack fouls called on her. I suspect the WNBA refs will be more forgiving.

She makes much more in NIL in college than she will in salary as a rookie in the W, so my suspicion is the calculus for going pro early has changed compared to even two season ago. (and the even dirtier secret is her NIL value might actually drop once she goes pro...)

Agree; Ms. Brink will take a brobdingnagian cut to go pro. And she can build up her professional marketability by playing in one or more Final Fours.
And she will keep cashing in on being an Influencer via Instagram etc.

I agree with this and in general, am surprised more top collegiate prospects have not elected to use their extra year of eligibility. The college game and in my opinion the appreciation of it and the intensity of the tournament and Final Four is a much better experience for the athlete than the current state of the WNBA (and the very limited roster spots/playing time).
I wondered after Kiana was cut if perhaps she wished she came back for a 5th year, and many other "top" college players who if not selected in the 1st round, seem to get cut.
