And Nija shuts the door!! Stanford beat Alabama once again, and the Cardinal advance to Sunday!
This is truly special stuff we are seeing from the Stanford pitching staff in this World Series!
Stanford will play on Sunday at 12:00pm PT on ABC
against the loser of Florida State-Washington.
Let's get another one on Sunday!

Great for Stanford!
I bet the Alabama coach is never going to do that again. Two out in the top of the 7th, down by a run, he asks the hobbled star if she wants to be pulled for a final farewell. Of course she says no. But with the distraction, the next pitch is hit over the fence.

I was going to post the same thought. Fouts was doing fine toward the end of the game. One out to go for her. The coach stops the game, walks out to the mound, and asks her if she wants to come out of the game. Can someone explain that strategery to me? Did he want to give her the opportunity for a standing ovation from the Alabama fans or did he want to try to win the game?

I think your thought when NiJaree came in was the same that Patrick Murphy deep down probably thought: "It's over". And with hindsight, it was over, though Sydney getting another moment was great. I think he wanted to honor a player who has given so much to that program and team over five years, and battling through injury. It really was a gritty performance from Montana, but Stanford was clearly the better team tonight.

Florida State has a deep rotation (though I think not quite as deep or as good as ours). Washington is a bit more limited (as far as depth) in the circle, but have a dangerous offense that has seen our pitching three times already this season. I would say we want FSU, because Florida State hasn't seen our pitching, but I just have a feeling with this group that they aren't afraid of facing anybody at this tournament. There is an air of confidence about this group and the way they are playing right now.

Tired, so will post more tomorrow. Didn’t realize Murphy went out to ask her to see if she wanted to be pulled.
I was sitting 5 rows behind right handed batters box fix for game. NiJaree Canady is the real deal. Measured 12 to 15 pitches with my pocket radar. All but one was 71 to 73 miles per hour. The off speed pitch was 68. On one batter she had three 73mph pitches called balls, struck batter out on 72mph pitch.

He hustled out and back so as not to take up much time. He also said the additional assistant coach he is going to hire on July 1 will be a hitting coach!
Sydney Steele gets full credit for the homer: she said was ready for that inside pitch based on how Fouts had pitched her successfully on her two preceding at-bats.

I don’t get to watch much college softball between high school and rec ball softball commitments. Been wanting to go to the World Series for about 10 years, but until this year my daughter was always this weekend.
Alana Vawter was impressive. Cruising 66-68. She threw an off speed at 55, then threw two pitches at 69 for a strike out. Was sitting with the Mizzou coach and she was impressed when Alana threw two off speed pitches in a row at 55,58 for a strikeout.
Got a big chuckle when Canady threw 3 pitches at 73 that must of just missed and were called balls. She struck the batter out with a 72 mph pitch. I joked she wasn’t getting enough movement when she threw 73.
I was taking an NFCA class and Coach Allister spoke with and answered questions for the class for 15-20 minutes while the team was doing their dynamic warmups for the practice two hours before the game. As soon as warmups finished she politely said “excuse me” and went to the practice. Impressive listening to her talk.

Stanford will face a familiar rival with a spot in the National Semifinals on the line. UW loses a tight, mistake-filled game to Florida State
to fall into the loser's bracket.
Winner of Stanford-UW tomorrow at 12:00pm PT on ABC gets Oklahoma in the National Semifinal on Monday.
After getting hit off of early in the UW-FSU contest, I imagine Washington would go with freshman ace Ruby Meylan; Meylan only threw 36 pitches
today, as opposed to nearly 65 for #2 Lindsay Lopez.

NiJaree Canady with a great start to Stanford's must win contest against Washington. Back to back strikeouts
end a minor scoring chance after Washington put a runner in scoring position at second with only one out.
Some special stuff from NiJaree. 5 straight strikeouts. Can the Stanford offense
build on the performance they are getting from their freshman star?

Stanford breaks through in bottom of the sixth!! Stanford leads 1-0 heading to the 7th. Kylie Chung with a great piece of hitting to drive home the game's first run!
