Haha, yes, it does mean a book, but is also a counter when you count homers and many other things (often long items).
Pronounced “ippon” in the case above. 
本塁打（honruida) and more currently ホームラン（houmu-ran) are what Troy Clardy sometimes called last year for Sasaki’s homeruns.

I managed to catch the end of tonight's game vs Michigan on KZSU. Tough loss. Stanford was down 7-2 going into the bottom of the ninth and had a spirited rally that ended with the tying run--trying to score from second on a single to left with one out--being thrown out at home. With two outs and the tying run at second, Jimmy Nati struck out on three pitches.

Stanford takes on Oregon State Sunday at 11 am.

I was listening on The Zoo too. Made me wonder if maybe Marsh should’ve been held at 3B to give Sasaki a shot at a sayonara (walk-off) hit. We will never know…
