Also hard to win when FT attempts are 19-3 against you.

Game slipping away on classic Haaseketball: can't generate a good shot for critical possession after critical possession. No screens. No penetrate and kick. Aimless passing around the perimeter then a bad shot. So done with Haase!

Same story, day after day, week after week, season after season. A few blips of good here and there, but never near enough. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Coach

We were doing some of those good things in the first half.  Gave up on all of it and played one on one in the second half.  Results were predictable.

Yeah, for sure. They did set a nice screen on the ATO in the final minute (I think it was) for that wide-open 3 for Spencer Jones that he bricked. He may never have been that open in his life. Oh well, in contrast to the Arizona game where everything went in, they had a bunch of missed layups and some terrible shots on open looks. In general, I put a lot of it on Haase, esp down the stretch, but some was just bad luck and maybe just one of those nights. Lots of long rebounds went straight into UCLA hands (luck) and refs were calling things tight, which didn't seem to favor us. When you add that to the Haaseketball factor, they lose a winnable game.

He's also 2 years older.

RE: MBB Thread (11-14, 5-9) - BostonCard - 02-17-2023

Ingram as a sophomore averages 27 min, 9.8 p/g, 5.7 r/g, and 3.6 assists per game for a team that is under .500.  He is a 39.7% shooter and a 31.8% three point shooter.
In 2020/21 Jaquez, as a sophomore, averaged 35 min, 12.3 p/g, 6.1 rebounds per game, and 1.7 assists per game for a team that was a whisker away from winning a national title.  He was a 48.6% shooter and a 39.4% three point shooter.

Yeah, Jaquez is better now, but he was also better at the same stage in development.  Ingram had a better freshman year statistically than Jaquez, but while Jaquez got better each year from his freshman to senior year, Ingram has been flat (and in fact his scoring is down).

Just a wild-eyed off-the-wall thought and count me as crazy, but wonder if coaching has anything to do with that..

The NY Times has a nice article about Ryan Agarwal as an Indian-American basketball player: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/18/sports/ncaabasketball/stanford-ryan-agarwal.html

I'm still aghast that Agarwal's 46% three-point shooting isn't enough for Haase to play him more than a couple of minutes per game in crap time.  Hopefully our next coach will find a way to work him in more...

Since it's not particularly relevant to the theme of the article, it's hilarious to me that it refers to Stanford's "faltering offense." Apparently word of the 7-year futility of Haaseketball on offense has spread so widely that even general news staff at the NYT can't help mentioning it (author isn't a sports reporter)!

He's great at three-point shooting.

Have you watched him do anything else? You know, like defend or pass at the college level?

Jarvis Moss is also great at three-point shooting - 41.7% this season. Why isn't that enough for Haase to play him at all, considering we need stronger guard play? (Hint: same thing.)

I'm going to say this carefully because I don't really believe in criticizing our players individually (coaches are fair targets of course):

Agarwal is not even close to the worst defender on this team.  Not even close. Ditto for passing.

Well, the guy is only a freshman. We'll see what the new coach next year thinks of him.
We are getting a new coach, right?
FWIW, here is what the incumbent said about him.
“We have recruited Ryan for a long time, and are thrilled to welcome him to the Farm next year. His skillset is unique for someone with his size. He passes the ball well, has a great feel for the game, and is an excellent 3-point shooter. On the defensive end, he is extremely versatile with great length and quickness. He is passionate about the game and improving." – Jerod Haase

RE: MBB Thread (11-14, 5-9) - Treebound - 02-18-2023

It was painful to watch the end of the UCLA game.  It was winnable imho, but nobody (Spencer or Ingram) stepped up to take the ball and lead.   It now seems pretty straightforward to me.  Either the team wins out and makes the Pac12 championship game, or Haase is No Mas.   8 years of mediocre Dawkins hoops followed by 7 years of mediocre Haaseketball has been brutal to watch.  It's way past time for a change.

Agree with the general sentiment, but I blame Haase (not Spencer or Ingram) for the lack of execution down the stretch. With the very occasional (and breath-taking...like where has that been for 2 seasons?) exception of Ingram, no one on this roster is going to generate his own look and/or take a defender off the dribble and get bucket on his own. They needed to be running certain sets that Haase basically seems to not know about. :-)

Also, I don't care if they win out and get to the Pac-12 champ game (or NCAA Tournament) as unlikely as that is, Haase should be gone yesterday.

Spencer, Angel and Murrell leading the way for a 15-9 lead over Spoiled Children in 1Q.

16-2 Condom run since then. We trail 25-17. We need to do a better job of covering Petersen and Ellis. Let the others beat us, not those 2.

RE: MBB Thread (11-14, 5-9) - JJJ - 02-18-2023

25-30 bad guys now.

I would want SJones on the hook for 15+ every game, but all of the following are fully capable of racking up 10+ at the same time. If only it would actually happen…
Ingram
Angel
Raynaud
Murrell
MJones
O’Connell
Agarwal
