Really? As far as I can determine at 15:50 on 26-Jan the Seattle job is still open.
Quote:They're a mess.
True. Totally unsuited to a two year cameo by BB.
Quote:They got rid of an overmatched Ron Rivera. They'll probably hire the Detroit OC. Time for BB to retire.
From what I have seen the Detroit OC, Ben Johnson, is also in the running for the Seattle job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88EZKc6ADOI
No idea what is really true though. BB isn't going to either of them however :-).

The gloom after the Packers close call and the 49ers struggles in the rain is pervasive in the Bay Area .... TOO pervasive.

This is the sort of team SF should run through - Vulnerable at Corner, great at stopping conventional running offenses but not at covering the RB as a receiver.  On offense Detroit depends on big running backs who will get met by SFs equally big and physical linebackers.  Plus, rain is unlikely and the conditions at Levi's should be perfect for football.  Word Friday is Deebo Samuel practiced both Thursday and Friday and will play on Sunday.

Both teams will score but the 49ers will score more and it won't be that close in the 4th quarter.

49ers 36, Detroit 24

SF 31 Det 27.  A reversal of the ‘57 score…..

If it's that close, Purdy will be tarred and feathered by the media. . . .

Niners 37, Lions 21

Who cares? This is the playoffs. Just win baby.

Let them doubt us.

Deebo fully off the injury list.

RE: 2023 Niners thread - Mick - 01-26-2024

49ers 41, Detroit 14.

Here comes the Niners, baby...

BTW, the national press is rooting for the Niners to lose...hard.

A friend of mine from Detroit tells me that the plucky blue collar Lions are America's new favorite team, and this is the support map color coded for the country.

I pointed out two things:

1) The quarterback of his plucky blue collar Lions grew up in Marin County and went to Cal-Berzerkley, and

2) The bottom half of the red state doesn't support the 49ers in any way, shape or form.

My brother in law is a Packers fan. He says the other Midwestern NFC teams feel like so:

The question of the day. Will Steve Wilkes be coaching the second half?

It could be worse…

My son-in-law was born in Detroit and is a big Lions fan (and he is a great guy).  So, one person I know is happy today…..

Getting killed in the trenches. O line cant block. D line can't tackle. . . ..

RE: 2023 Niners thread - qwerty49 - 01-28-2024

I guess the Niners don't want to play Taylor Swift next month.  Detroit looks like they want it more, and Purdy looks all-too-human.

But the '57 game started out with a big Niner lead, so....

RE: 2023 Niners thread - cardcrimson - 01-28-2024

3rd and 18. Sheesh.

RE: 2023 Niners thread - BobK - 01-28-2024

Tie game !!!!

RE: 2023 Niners thread - French Rage - 01-28-2024

Ouch for CMac there.  But got them close enough for the quick run in to extend the lead.

Wow.  1957 is revenged, in a very appropriate fashion.   And what a catch by Aiyuk.  Post-game, he said a ladybug landed on his shoe this morning.

RE: 2023 Niners thread - rogpodge - 01-28-2024

Niners open -2.5. Wouldn't be surprised to see KC -3 by kickoff.

RE: 2023 Niners thread - lex24 - 01-28-2024

As I said, revenge for ‘57.

Can't see Niners as favorites.

Agree.

Yes. And how many of CMacs 130 yards were “ unexpected “.

RE: 2023 Niners thread - French Rage - 01-28-2024

Campbell's gotta take those points, in the playoffs.

RE: 2023 Niners thread - Mick - 01-28-2024

Our game manager, system quarterback ran five times for 48 yards, a 9.6 average, as he led the 49ers to the single greatest second half comeback in NFC Championship game history (tied with Jim Harbaugh's 2012 SF 49ers team).

Mahomes ran six times for 15 yards, 2.5 ypc. Lamar Jackson ran 8 times for 54 yards, 6.8 ypc.

Great game.  But I thought you weren’t big on QB comebacks.  :). Kidding.

Mahomes is the King.  Have a chance to dethrone him for a season.

Jerry Goff had 6 passes balls in his last major league game.  I suspect today was tougher.

Happy for the Niners.  So glad we get to see them in SB.  I do feel for Detroit.

Yeah.  The halftime score in both games was 24-7.  Amazing….

Campbell played the pro version of Dan Lanning.  I get the idea of going for it on 4th down but there is a fine line between aggressive play calling and hubris.  Both Lanning and Campbell crossed the line in their respective biggest game of the season and it cost them dearly….

Mahomes is no Goff (the modern version of Steve DeBerg), it will take a monumental effort by the 49ers to secure #6.
