Two-way frosh Ketelson who left 5 runners stranded through the first 2 innings, finally gives up some runs (including an unfortunate double lost in the clouds). Eager/Esqy pull him after 2.2IP, 64 pitches, 5H, 2BB, 3K, 2ER (so far).

What is the nickname the announcers are using for Nebraska? Sounds like “skers” (as in Huskers). Can that possibly be right?

Well, they used to be the Bugeaters.
Stanford wins 11-6. The Cardinal finished 2-2 in the College Baseball Series tournament in Surprise, AZ. Four-game home series vs Cal State Fullerton next weekend.

Hmm. The team is looking a lot like it did in the early part of last season, in that we have so much offensive firepower that we can overcome the pitching staff giving up a lot of runs. But yesterday the staff only gave up one earned run. A shame that it happened on the same day we had three errors and OSU held us to six hits.

Not worth its own thread, but the exhibition game vs Japan’s Waseda University is streaming on ESPN app. Rintaro struck out swinging with bases loaded and nobody out, but we’re up 4-0 after 1, as their OF had trouble with both short and long fly balls.

This might have been played like an exhibition, I could only follow online and was confused by some of the substitutions.
Waseda kept us in check until the seventh inning but we put the hammer down. The following info is readily available about them:

Waseda is one of the most selective and sought after universities in Japan.
In a loose sense, Waseda University could be considered the Stanford of Japan, although they have about 6 times as many undergrads as Stanford does. Maybe they're more like the Cal of Japan, although they're private like Stanford is. Their mascot IS a bear....... :-O

It was an exhibition game (stats don’t count), we used 2 DHs (10 hitters) and a pitcher an inning, and mostly gave playing time to non-regulars.
Everyone wanted to see how Sasaki would do, but he struck out swinging the first 2 AB, then was HBP in his back. Went 0 for 3 on the day (I didn’t see the other AB).
Two-way player Brock Ketelsen’s 420ft HR was unbelievable.
Waseda used wooden bats as they do in their league.
According to their FB post, Stanford hosted Waseda’s first game on US soil in 1905!?!?
Waseda and Keio have had a long-standing rivalry, and I see more of a similarity (school vibe wise) between us and Keio (where we’ve had a long exchange program), but that’s neither here nor there.

On a somewhat related note, according to the stats at gostanford.com, right-hander Ryan Speshyock has yet to pitch this season. He had a solid summer in the Cape Cod League as a reliever.
It's too early to draw conclusions, but Stanford's pitching has been uneven but not terrible. The defense has been shaky on occasion and the hitting needs to wake up. There's no way Jimmy Nati's on-base % should be .235.
